It's been a lot of work but my 6r80 swap kit is finally available to buy! I've been driving it with the 6r80 for a couple weeks now and it's an absolute blast, it's insane how much better gearing wakes this old v12 up
Please note that there is a lead time of 6-12 weeks and the kit is not all inclusive, I highly recommend putting together the full budget before purchasing any parts, full cost is $4-5000 USD
Here is a link to the kit, I've also attached a pdf with the full write up and many many more pictures, please let me know if you have any questions! Jaguar XJS-HE6r80 swap

The 10r80 case is slightly longer but the bolt pattern is the same and should work fine with the kit.. however in my experience the 10r80 is a significantly weaker and less reliable transmission! I think having more gears is also a diminishing returns kind of thing as well, if you're crazy enough to be towing with your XJS I could see 10 being a big advantage though :P
Sounds very interesting to me. Your kit, plus the controller at $1500, and a used low miles transmission is $500 to $800… really not bad and could be done for $4-$5k as you say.
6R80 question… Which version did you use? There’s a 6R80 out of a 2020 F-150 2WD with 18k on it for $500 near me. This was the 3.3 liter. Out of a 4WD seems more expensive and has different listing on car-part.com.

great question.. I really should have put that in my documentation! I used a 2wd 6r80 out of a 2013 ford explorer, the big requirements are that it's not older than 2011, has to be 2wd, and has to have the proper bell housing (the round ones will not work, it has to be the one with 'ears' on top)
I got mine for $250 from LKQ, I'm sure it's seen plenty of miles and desperately needed a power wash but it isn't slipping so I can't complain! Just a personal hunch but I'd look for one a little older than 2020, even if they're the same model I think quality control has gone out the window lately..
You got a good deal. The price difference between the “round one” used on the 6 and the one with ears used on the 8 is massive. Almost everything local to me is $3000 instead of $500 for the round bellhousing.

I'm assuming you're not in the US then, here everyone and their mother has owned a vehicle with the 5.4 so the trannies are everywhere for dirt cheap, fleabay has a few for ~$500 but I'm not sure what shipping over the pond would cost..
Unfortunately I don't have one of the round variety to measure off of so I can't offer another version of the adapter at this time, it will certainly be something I look into in the near future though!
It pains me to hear that they're expensive over there, the entire point of this endeavor was to find a way to wake these cars up without breaking the bank
Hi, I’m New Hampshire. It is possible car-part.com overpriced. I did see much cheaper transmissions in LKQ as you suggested,, but you need to know the ID codes because they don’t list if the car is 2WD or 4WD like car-part.com does.
Do any of these transmission codes in picture match which transmission you used?
Obviously I’m pretty interested! There is a website in UK doing something similar using the ZF version of the 6r80 called jagbox.uk. He will only sell a kit with a rebuilt transmission included, which shipping from UK plus tariff would be stupid expensive.
For ordering on LKQ you may need to give them a vin number so they can 'check compatibility', you can use this one: 1FMJU1K57DEF34978 (pulled off a random used car listing for a 13 explorer with the correct specs)
Also lots of car dealerships or shops get free shipping through LKQ, could be worth seeing if you can order it through a shop to take advantage of that! (I got mine through the LKQ account of the dealership I work at)

Have you sold a kit yet? I really don’t want to be first . I did find some more affordable used transmissions lately, versus when I first looked back in August.
