Hi everyone, thinking I will change the fuel filter on my 95 xjs cabriolet (AJ16) in the coming week, car hasn't been used for a 4-5 months due to Arizona summer heat.
Do I need to de-pressurize the system or will it just be a straight swap?
Any answers/thoughts always appreciated.
Deprerssurizing would help. You can smack the inertia switch on the passenger side, by the door hinge, then try to start the car. The pump will be deactivated and the pressure should fall.
This doesn't meant here won't be fuel in the lines when you disconnect the filter, it just wont be under 43psi of pressure.
I can't recall if you might need an oring or not. If you do, I recommend viton, as it is fuel resistant. Other than that, it's a straight swap.
Thanks Vee, I have the filter etc. from SNG Barret in my box of goodies.Thought that it was about time that I got around to changing it as I don't believe that it has been changed in the 85k miles that it has done. Also going to change the o-ring and seal on the fuel tank sender unit that is weeping a little so will try and do them all at the same time.
Thanks,
gmac
But my dealer told me they would be on the pipe joins and I needed 2 of the part number XR829166 which is an O-ring fitted to areas of other newer Jaguar models. Sure enough, there were O-rings fitted.
See the photos below of the last time I changed mine and you can see the position of the O-rings on the pipe ends.
Also the pipes will probably be very tight! So, after you've depressurised the system, initially loosen the pipe attachments whilst the filter clamp is still fitted or else you'll distort the pipes.
