Default Fuel tank removal 89 convertible

Evening all, moving on to the boot of my car I’ve got the fuel tank just about ready to come out. Only thing left is the gaiter between the filler cap and the tank. I know there not cheap but is it easiest just to cut through this ? Or hav3 I not tried hard enough!,

Hi Brinny

I cut through my Fuel Neck Filler with a knife!

After which I burst into Tears when I looked up the Price of a New One!

But all was not lost, as I found an Aftermarket one for around £10 which as I remember came from ebay and seemed to be much better quality than the one I took off and only needed a little bit of 'modding'

In as much as I cut it down because it was too long but best to measure the diameter of the Fuel Cap Filler and the Neck of the Fuel Tank beforehand just in case it happens to be a 'non standard size'

Look up 'Joiner Reducer' on ebay there are loads of them on there

Here is how I fitted a Fuel Cap to Fuel Tank Gaiter on 'Carmen' my 1995 XJS (Face-Lift) Convertible with 4.0L AJ16 Engine

There is also a Full description of how I removed the Fuel Tank and replaced the In-Tank Fuel Pump plus almost every 'Trick in the book' that I had to use to get her Started, which others having problems might find useful

On Page 92 of my 'Cherry Blossom' restoration thread and here is the Link to that page:

Replacing the Fuel Tank Gaiter and getting her started when She wouldn't go on my 1995 XJS 4.0L Convertible
