Help! 1990 XJS v12 will not shift out of 1st gear
Car has 23,000 miles, I am new to owning a Jag.. fixed the brake system with help from this forum! Thanks.
Now the car seems to be what some call limp mode??? It won't shift out of I think it is first gear.
This has happened once before but it fixed itself somehow. LOL or so I thought. This time I was pulling the left motor fan out from under dash to check to see if that was my air problem. Upon putting it back together my air worked BUT the car would go with no shifting then it seems as if it throws itself out of gear about 30 rpm till I slow rpms back down. I have tried unplugging the battery cable (found that in many posts), I have taken wiring apart again to check to see if something got pulled when I was cabling it back up around the steering column. ( I seem to have a lot of extra wiring someone installed a phone and cd system and the wiring is all under the steering column). I am having trouble finding the TCM so I can check it... not sure what to do next. No lights, showing.

The most common cause is a faulty transmission modulator or a disconnected/broken vacuum line to the modulator

Yup, most likely the vacuum line to the modulator is disconnected. Will be on the right side of the car, look underneath and see if the line is hanging down. I've pushed mine back on in a parking lot, but I had to lie flay on the ground to reach far enough underneath to do it.

Are you sure vacuum hose connected to manifold and that it is in good condition? Also has fluid level been checked, another thought is bad governor.
Is this the same car that had damaged trans. pan and is it LHD or RHD?
It is the same car but it was the oil pan not the transmission pan that was actually damaged. this happened once after the car was repaired but it sat for a while and it fixed itself... it is a LHD car.
