Default Hi, My new 88' Project.... gasoline smell!

I bought a project xjs last month. Running, driving, sorta braking project. It's been sitting though because it is way too cold and snowy etc to work on it. From day one I noticed a bit of a gas smell in the cabin and trunk. I went to just look at the car today as it got to a warm 40 degrees and see if the smell has dissipated. It has not! Open the drivers door and it's really pretty bad. So of course I've read and noticed the fuel filter and pump are right in the trunk. When spring comes I'm tackling this fuel issue first. Seems dangerous on many levels. Does anyone have any good photos or diagrams of where to check for fuel leaks or typical fuel problems? I've heard something about some tank bolts that rust? I'm new to jaguar, but fixed up my other project(a Porsche 944). Thank you, hope to get it running perfect for my fiancé 38k miles and fresh paint 10yrs ago before it was barned

Do a search on the XJS section of the forum for: Fuel tank, sump tank, fuel pipes, fuel tank breather. You are looking at a fuel tank pout job and a full R&R of the entire system. hard work but not difficult. All the flexible line will need renewing, and the tank itdelf may well have pinholes on the bottom. Also there is a supply and return pipe each side emerging from the front corner of the trnk. This has a flexible part which often fails with age, and the actual steel line might be perforated by rust pinholes. These links gives an idea of what you are dealing with

thank you for the info and tips. The car is rust free top to bottom but I'm guessing since it sat for 10years, any gas that was in the tank and lines could've rusted the tank from moisture etc? It looks like taking the tank out isn't to hard to do? And tips on that?
