Default Hiatus update

Greetings All,

I have been offline for too long but not absent from Jaguars.
Update:
Last year I acquired two XJSs for refurbishment, an '86 and an '89. Both BRG with biscuit interiors.
Both needed complete freshening up: New belts, hoses, fluids, filters, plugs, wires, shocks, tires, brakes, refurb'd EFI's, etc ......Awaiting warmer weather to finalize the '89.
The '86 has the remaining issues:
a. idles well at about 750-800 but has a periodic bog where it will drop 25 rpm or so and then return to steady
b. Blower 'HI' does not work
c. oil pressure gauge does not work. (recently saw a Living with a classic You tube on this. Looks fixable)

Welcome any guidance on these issues. Thx

Blower:
An easy place to begin is cleaning/checking connections at the blower relay pack. Remove the LH side console "cheek panel" and you'll see it. Black box with a dozen or so wires.

Oil gauge:
First check is to remove the wire from the sending unit and, with the key "on", touch the wire to ground. The oil pressure gauge should go to max/highest reading. Does it?

Idle:
The "could be" list might get long. And it's hard ferreting out the cause of a subtle momentary problem like that. Easy starting place would be a gentle jiggle test of the injector wires with the engine running. Same for wires at coil and ignition amp.

Cheers
DD

Does the blower go to full speed when you select defrost?

got the brake light switch adjusted so now it only comes on when you press on the brake. Before it was on all the time.

Test oil pressure wires with ground looking for gauge to go to MAX. Nothing.
Have removed the sending units from spare engine. Will swap out tomorrow and re-test.

Forgot to test blower on HI when in the Defrost mode. Will check tomorrow.

Someone is going to get a very nice car.

I assume you mean the rear brake lights, not the warning light?

This suggests a problem with the gauge itself, or the wiring to the gauge. or, very possibly, a problem with the printed circuit at the instrument cluster

Cheers

Too cold today (breezy, wet, low temp) but I suspect the culprit is at the gauge itself or the connection to the flexible printed circuit board. Will still swap out sensors and retest but expect to now have to proceed to the instrument cluster removal.

Recommendations on the proper grease to use on the windshield wiper motor drive shaft? the area that is uncovered when you remove the hold down plate and plastic cover.
