How do I put a New Battery in the Key Fob & Ignition Key for Central Locking 1995 XJS
Hi Guys
The Remote Central Locking is not working on 'Carmen' my 1995 XJS 4.0L Convertible so it looks like the Key Fob and the Key may require New Batteries
There is a Key Fob which is supposed to undo the Central Locking which takes a Battery and I managed to get that open to put a new Battery in but that still doesn't work the remote Central Locking
There is also the Ignition Key itself which also takes a Battery but I don't know how to undo the Battery Compartment on the actual Key to put in a New Battery (does anyone know) as I don't want to mess up the Key by doing it wrong
There is also a possibility that the Button on the Key Fob is for the IMMOBILIZER! which is possibly why She won't Start and could take Stupidity to another level!
How do I get that Battery Compartment on the 'Key' open? there is also a Push Button on the other side of the key but I use this Car so rarely that I cannot remember what that button does (does anyone know?)
Although She does seem like She is trying to Start but the Engine just won't pick up, so maybe its not the Immobilizer after all (and I can't find the handbook!)
But putting a New Battery in the Key could be a very big step forward as would getting the Central locking working
When I open the Car door manually with the Key, I still get the 'Chiming Bells' which do go off when I put the Key in the Ignition so not sure what to make of that regarding the Immobilizer
Does anyone know of a way to disarm the Immobilizer? as getting this Car running would be a very good start in more ways than one

The Fob has screws on the back, just undo and the fob should come apart. I think that the key has a small light in it, not the alarm. Does it have a small bulb where the metal key comes out ?
Also did you read the sticky on how to program your fob to the car ?

Hi Malc
Cheers!
I can now see the Button on the Key is a Torch Light as you were saying but I dare not take that Key apart as its got so many parts that it's making my head Spin and I cannot even remember a time when I have ever used that light on the Key
As for the Fob, I can now see from 'erm' process of elimination, that it's for the Central Locking so will need to be reprogrammed to make it work
But the 'Sticky' instructions, only seem to be for the XJ6
So hopefully that's nothing to do with my 'No Start Problem'
Although now at least I know which one is which
Cheers!
