I want the first car, with a stubby shortened XJS front end, and pre-facelift tail lights. I read they did have a mid engine supercar planned at one point.

I was 9 when this race was on - sat there and watched them go round all day - it was my introduction to the XJS.

I also remember the pits - broken oil coolers and mechanics all over the place to keep them running, it really was a race to remember.

I can't find any videos of the 84 race - was not quite so outstanding for the XJS - stalled on the starting line and got cleaned up from the rear

Cheers
Steve

I also watched this race, was this when the driving seat came loose?
I would have been 15.

Therefore, I'm guessing they had to use the same 5-speed Getrags. In the video, it seems it must be running a dog-leg 1st, 5-speed configuration.

What coils did they use I can't help but notice his car is firmly planted and flat even on the sharp bends?

This book answers a lot of questions. It's a few years ago I read it, so I don't remember details, but my guess is stiffer bushings, ARB and probably also coil springs. There were many restrictions though...
