Default How to tell if radio is bad!

My 1992 XJS convertible. My radio does nothing except the security light blinks. I checked all fuses that I could fine including under the center console. The radio does have power going to the radio with key on. Most replies said that my radio was no good. I purchase a used radio that was not tested
but they said that they were sure it was a 99% working radio.. I hooked it up and it's doing the same thing as my original radio....security light is blinking. With the two radio I now have, is there anyway for me to check to see if both radios are bad. is there some way I can put some kind of power to the radios on the bench to see if they are good or bad? what wires do I connect to see if radio is working or bad radio. I want to keep the same brand that the car came with but it's getting harder and harder to fine my radio. What if I buy. A second radio and it does the same thing as the ones I already have? if I have to buy a custom after market stereo, are there models on the market that will take the place of the original radio plus it's has to look like it came from the factory.

Do you have the security code for the radios?

If so, did you enter it?

Cheers

Yes I have codes for both radios. Nothing comes up on the radio screen saying to enter codes. On both radios the security lights blinks.

Normally the display would say "Loc" or "security" or similar but whenever the power supply is disconnected the code will have to be entered.

Try entering the code and see what happens!

I have a 1996 XJS and there doesn't seem to be any information about a security code. Does the stock radio unit in the 1996 XJS have a security code? I didn't see any mention of it in the manual. If so, is there a way to obtain the code?

Thanks.

Neither of the two 1996 XJS' that I've owned required a code for the radio.

I think once they went with the detachable face, the codes were discontinued?

I have a 1994 XJS base model convertible with the same issue. No power to the radio or the radio antenna.
This is not a code issue
The code indicator happens when power is interupted to the radio such as when the 12 volt battery is replaced.
In that instance, the radio the code light will illuminate on the face panel when power is restored.
My issue is the face panel is blank and the power antenna does not actuaute.
Checked and eplaced the 10 amp radio fuse under the driver's dash but still nothing.

In the '92 - '93 cars the radio feed goes through the seat heater relay. This, as on mine, can go wrong and l had to replace the relay.
Get the electrical diagrams for your vehicle from the stickys above to check.
