Well, this just got a lot less academic - Friday I drove to Raleigh, NC and picked up Ginger - my new-to-me 1991 XJS with 72,300 miles. Drove her home with no issues. I'm the third owner. Of course, there are a few issues that I'll be asking about/searching the forums on, but in any case I am excited. The only bad thing was I barely got to get her home, and couldn't tinker with her much because on Saturday we left for vacation! But she is patiently waiting for me to return....
Thanks in advance for all of the help & advice you'll be giving me in the future!!
Jealous of the functional fog lights...very nice car. Do keep in mind though, there will be trials and frustrations, we are here for you. You'll need a case of preferred drink and patience these are brutally simple but time consuming cars. The one thing I can testify to...$25,000....later (barn find, full restoration to almost racing specs) is that no matter the journey, you'll wash all the pain away with one perfect drive the very next day and all will be good.

Ginger looks very sharp! With the leaper and nice and clean leather inside. Red exterior is really bright and striking, Congrats!
Given that the car is approaching 30 years of age, please do go through the regular (but absolutely required!) maintenance items, starting with the Cooling system. (Your car is V12, right?)
Being in Virginia, you should still have a few hot summer days ahead of you. So, drive your Jag around town, in traffic, and keep a close eye on the coolant gauge. Ideally, the temp should not go above midpoint ('N'), even when fully warm and in traffic. If you see the gauge creeping above 'N', please do take your time and meticulously overhaul the whole cooling system. There are plenty of references here on this forum. And people are ready to jump in and guide you through the process.
