Default Insurance recommendations?

Have had 92 xjs over a year and 1/2 ago and added it to our GEICO policy. Haven't even put on 1,000 miles during that time.

Any suggestions for coverage that would recognize a vehicle that has such low mileage? I'm sure I'm paying too much!

Default Insurance

I too have Geico. They will insure it as a classic if it's 25 years old. Mines not. I told them I drive it 2500 miles a year, they lowered the rate. I would like to get collector car insurance though. She's a 94. Have to wait a few years I guess.

I have Allstate for my primary cars and American Collectors for my XJS and TR6, My two collector cars run me a whopping $280 a year for both, full coverage, no deductible, limited to 2500 miles per vehicle per year (they've never asked for an odometer reading in 8 years) my XJS is agreed value of 8k and the TR6 is 12k.

Hagerty, $15k guaranteed policy ('85 coupe, concour queen, sub 30k miles), 2,500 miles a year limit (I think), about $350.00 per year.

Not a better firm out there / they insure all my cars aside from my dailies.

If your paying $350 a year for 2500 mile coverage and 15k agreed value your paying too much. I'm paying $280 for both cars ( total premium), no deductible, towing included. Made one claim in 8 years, service was timely and excellent. Hagerty is a good company but you pay a way higher premium for all that advertising and TV time they do. I've had most people I know make the switch after they cross check premiums for the same coverage with AC.

I just pulled up my account, it's actually $295.00 for the XJS. Regardless, their claims department literally runs circles around the competition, and it would be worth considerably more money per year to me honestly. I too have towing, 150 miles for free or thereabouts, then my Farmers policy covers 100% of any remaining tow distance.

I also move my cars around the country via covered carrier quite frequently, and have run-in to some true weasels in terms coverage for the same.

Understand / am aware I could likely source cheaper, but there is no comparison especially for large claims, in my experience and seeing those of others / they have good volume discounts.

American wouldn't cover Gloria. Maybe she wasn't old enough? (94)?

Yeah, 94 may be tough for some classic carriers to cover. On the subject of large claims my friends XJSC burnt down due to an engine fire, AC paid the agreed value no problem what so ever.

I just ran your car through Hagerty's eval and it appears they will write the policy no problem. The quote was $474.00 per year at $15K, the increase over mine being the year of the car I'm sure.

CAll their 1-800 number tomorrow, and maybe with your actual info, you can get it much cheaper..

Hagerty refused to cover my cars because I told them I drive them twice a week.

On a slightly different note, if I have a car that is being restored and will not be driven for more than 12 months how do I minimize the insurance cost?
