Default Let there be light!

Anybody know where the headlight dipped beam inhibitor relay is located on an '86 V12 Cabby? Not the big silver one on the left of the engine bay; I've replaced that and still get nothing on dipped beam.
On full beam all four lights illuminate but diddly squat on dipped.

Can't say I've ever heard of one. Are you sure such a thing exists?

Then again such a relay might not have been used on USA cars so maybe I'm just not familiar with it.

Cheers

Steve, I do not know where, but somewhere under the dash there is a relay as well as the one in the front LHS engine bay under the cover. When I switch my lights main/dip and back, there is a huge clonk clearly audible in the cabin.

Do you hear anything from the drivers seat when you switch between beams?

There is a loud clunk every time that I go near the car but that is usually the sound of my wallet hitting the ground and exploding under the strain!
Yes, there is a clunk from somewhere near the dashboard; one of captainjaguarscathouse many, many diagrams clearly shows a dipped beam inhibitor relay as well as the main headlamp relay. Now i just need to find it and replace it.

Might be a problem with the lightswitch rather tha the relay but wouldn't expect it to operate the relay/inhibitor switch either.

I had some issues with the headlight relay but were they fixed withe replacing the relay. Are the fuses ok? I seem to remember having some issue with them. The fuses were intact but the contacts had obviously got contaminated.

Which diagram?

What exactly does a headlight inhibitor relay do, anyway?

The curiosity is killing me!

Found some mention of it here, mostly towards the end, section 86A133 and 134, but elsewhere, too

http://www.captainjaguarscathouse.co...&%20Wiring.pdf

One diagram shows it on the RH underdash panel between the rear demist timer and the ignition load relay.

Still curious as to what it does. Looking at the diagrams there seems to be a tie-in with the rear fog lamps. Is that right?

Cheers

Could be Doug, when the rear guards are on, you cannot get main beam.

Right! That's the diagram that shows the inhibit relay located between the rear demist timer ad the ignition load relay.

I believe the inhibit relay prevents the fog lights from coming on when the high beams are engaged.

On my 83 there is an additional headlamp fuse box located on the left side fenderwell under a small rectangular plastic cover. It has fuses that protect the high and low beam circuits. If you have high beams but not low, the fuses may be blown or corroded. The fuses are mentioned on page 86-52 of the manual above.

I put all new fuses in as the first step so that shouldn't be the problem.
Managed to drop the lid down somewhere completely inaccessible at the same time so I'll have to try and fish that before it melts on the exhaust.
