Default Look What Came In The Mail..

Full stainless exhaust system by "Simply Performance"! I ordered on Monday and they got to me in California all the way from the UK today on Thursday! WOW! The build quality looks top notch. Will not be installing for a while however. Currently stockpiling parts for a full restoration that I'll start a new thread on whenever it starts.

Basically the plan is: Remove engine & freshen it up, do the manual transmission conversion to a Getrag 256 box, rebuild the front & rear suspension subframes and renew everything, a new aluminum radiator from Wizard and electric fans, and basically anything else I come across along the way. I also have a set of NOS starfish alloy wheels that I snagged on craigslist a while back.

The aim of this project is to build an xj-s that looks completely original, but with subtle improvements to make it better than when it was new. To be continued..

I wonder... Talking of subtle improvements, are you legally allowed to replace those hideous 5 mph bumpers?

I see you are going to ditch the catalytic convertors...

I dunno if it's legal or not, strictly speaking. But there isn't an inspection program.....and it isn't the type of thing a law enforcement officer would notice.

Cheers

The 5 mph bumpers are "right out". I'll be collapsing the shock absorbers for the bumpers as has been outlined on this forum. It's not high on the priority list but I'd also like to get the British style rear bumper with the inset reflectors and the euro style headlamps.

I am ditching the catalytic converters. My smog pump and fuel vapour recovery system have already been removed so I figured "why not". It already won't pass a CA emissions test which is why I have it registered in TN which has no emissions testing or state inspection.

Included in the kit are the "bungs" for the O2 sensors. They just need to be welded in the correct position.

I have about 60% of the parts sitting in my garage. With every shipment that comes in I get more excited to start. Just a couple more months of saving and I should be there!

Sounds very good. I was wondering about the bumpers because I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that the 5 mph bumper requirement has been relaxed to an extent. And as Doug says, it's not likely anyone will notice anyway....
