Default My XJS in Manhattan

On nice days i'll park it on the street on the upper west side. I have 2 cars, a cherry condition 1989 XJS V12 convert. in signal red, and a totally mint 1983 Ferrari 308 QV in yellow.

Both hot looking cars, but to be honest I get more looks and stop and chats with the Jaguar. Just today, had it parked on a street corner by Columbus, and I watched dozens of people walk up to the car, read the inspection, check out the back, converse about it.

Something about it looks like a classic 60s car. Think the best angles are 45 degrees on front or 45 degrees in back.

I'm also in Manhattan. Have a 92 coupe in a custom charcoal/black bluish paint.

Still installing a bunch of performance upgrades before I take it out next spring. Just replaced the entire exhaust system.

We should def keep in touch and link up when I bring mine out. Do you work on it yourself or do you have a mechanic?

I was also debating if I should park it outside when I register it. How does that work out for you? At the moment it's parked for winter storage.

I park it in the garage. On nice weekend days when i'm going to take it out i'll find a spot at the end of a block where I can't be banged up and leave out for the day. Typically not overnight though.

I can do small things but not wrench myself. Have mechanic, but would like to do more myself.

How about you?

The previous owner of my car had to choose between the Jag and his 'vette. He chose the 'vette, but said that the Jag always got more compliments. I'm surprised it gets more attention than your Ferrari, though.

love the new york city xjs's!

mine, unfortunately, is currently at my family's place in pennsylvania awaiting a starter motor replacement.

but she has been parked on the street in the east village for the last year and a half. she's far from a mint example, so i dont mind the nicks and bumps. and youre absolutely right. it gets tons of compliments, nods, and thumbs up.

This may just be crazy talk, but I have noticed more than once, an owner of a so called super car paying much more attention to my XJS than I could reciprocate, most recently a R8 that parked next to me. The R8 owner was asking me all sorts of questions, and I was trying to pretend to have some interest in his R8 as well. Let a Gullwing,a Lincoln Mark VII, a Testa Rosa ,a Fisker Karma , a Porsche or any Jaguar build before 2008 park next to me and then I would be all over that. R8's and other anime inspired vehicles do not interest me in the least

Good lord, Dr, that car was made for that street - that's a great shot! Are those wheels stock?

Spike, I'll heartily agree. I never did go through the requisite young gearhead supercar phase, although I do have a weird fascination with the Lamborghini Countach... Funny you should mention the Mark VII though, I'd been driving them for ten years before getting my Jag. My last Mark, a '92 with a rare paint job and expensive dealer's package, took a speeding station wagon for me just over a month ago.

That is the coolest photo of an XJ-S I've seen in years. Love it!

Ahh man I wish I could even do small things. Not much experience with the car yet aside from taking her to the mechanic and back to the garage. Eventually I'd like to learn how to do some basic things.

Yes I'd be concerned with leaving her out overnight but it seems like Dr. Scientist hasn't had any issues with his with street parking.

Actually Dr. Scientist recommended my mechanic out here and he did a great job. Can't wait to go back to him in a month or two to start finalizing a few things that the car needs to get her up to speed for next summer.

them wheels is 18" Asteroids, off the first-gen V8 XJR. (X308)
Don't they look GREAT?

I have a new set of 4 in boxes awaiting my XJS purchase.
I think they are perfect size for XJS wheelarches. 19 or 20 inch would start to look silly

Steve at sbwheels.co.uk had some a year ago, but might have run out.
