You might be on the wrong forum. This is XJ6.

But,the cars are similar.

I solved a similar issue along with a NOS ignition switch, via David Boger of everyday xj6.

My oldone was very loose and in poor condition

The new one so much better.

look for the fuse either in the main fuse box or a separate fuse holder most likely in the trunk. Also ask in the XJ-S forum.1

When you Break the BRAKE lights, of course they don't work, they're BROKEN.

Check the lever switch on the pedal?? (DAC1308)

I was thinking break lights are something you turn on when you are having a break? Break lights, do they sell them in AutoZone? I'd like to have a break.

Hi flatbroke

You are on the right forum, this is the XJS Forum

If your Brake Lights are not working and assuming that they were working before, there are only about 4 Reasons why they are not working now

(1) Both Brake Light Bulbs have blown both at the same time (very unlikely but stranger things have happened)

(2) The Brake Light Switch has Broken (possible but probably not)

(3) A Fuse has Blown (highly likely) (open the Fuse box panel under the Passenger knee pad with a Coin) and Check the Fuse

(4) Replace the Fuse and see if the Fuse Blows again

(5) If it doesn't blow then you are good to go

(6) If the Fuse does Blow again, then it is Highly Likely, as in 95% Likely that you have got a Trapped Wire that is causing the Fuse to Blow when you depress the Brake Pedal

While it could be a Faulty Switch, its much more likely to be a Trapped Wire shorting out

This is the Foot Brake Switch, check for a Trapped Wire under the Footwell

I have an 87 XJ6 with the same problem - the brake lights do not come on. I have taken the switch out DAC1308 - the arm articulates fine. What else could cause this not to work? For a while the brake lights would work, didn't work, etc. Anything else I should look for before purchasing a new one...

Also, which fuse to look at ?
