Default OEM Style Carpet Mats

Subject: 96' XJS , Topaz with Oatmeal Interior (SDN + AGD).

I know there are a variety of vendors who can supply mats. But wanted to ask you guys if you have a favorite vendor for these mats. Especially one that can do custom work.

What I'm trying to do is have some correct fitting mats made that are the approximate color, but with a lighter (cream?) edging for contrast. Any ideas where I can look ? Thanks.

Rick

I would be keen to hear from anyone who has bought a set of tailored matts and been happy with them. I still have all the originals for all mine, but I would like to think about retiring them before they get too tatty

rickr,

Are you talking about the actual footwell carpets, or overmats to go on top of those?

I have a set of front floor mats on order from:
https://www.lloydmatsstore.com/ultimat-floor-mats

Haven't received them yet, but their website offers plenty of colour options and seems professional and $US120 cost hopefully indicates decent quality.

I got a set of Cocomats for my XJS. The blue.black check design goes well with the dark blue carpet. They have a classic look, and are very tough while staying in position

The guy who said claims to replicate the OEM carpet is Paul’s Jaguar of Florida. Never tried him for carpet.

In the UK, Aldridge Trimming are the best IMO.

they are around 5/16in thick.
I eyeballed the shade of grey and it looks okay. Car not here, so presume shape fits.
I was trying for exact colour match. Impossible if using a monitor. Colour a bit greener than the grey carpet in the car but will look fine. They will send colour swatches for the OCD

Thanks for the photo. They do look like good quality. Often times, a slight difference in color can make a nice, subtle contrast. Maybe matching the mat's color to the seat color versus the carpet color.

mozanbique,

Are these replacements for the actual footwell carpets or overmats to go on top of the footwell carpets?

How much did they cost?

Is there a reinforced heelpad on the drivers side and a cutout for the accelerator kickdown stop?

Overmats.
$US120 front only.
No to both questions.
Their website let's you select XJS re shape and size. Haven't fitted them to the car yet.

I used GB Classic Trim. I worked with Graham and he ended up making up exact replicas of the 1996 mats, including the Jaguar heel pad and the plastic channel that secures it to the metal panel underneath the mats. Velcro sewn in where it's supposed to be too! Looks perfect.

I didn't get a chance to chime in before you placed your order with Lloyds, so I kept quiet. I figured you might have seen the post.

I didn't specify that I didn't wan't the heel pad on the mat under the overmat...but I am not complaining!

Hi Paul

I'm a bit ignorant here. LOL I am confused between the terms carpet mats and over-mats (or overlays). Generally speaking, are they two different terms meaning the same thing ? Or two different items ? Sorry for my confusion.

WOW!! Those mats in your older Link look spot-on. Wonder if they can still be ordered ?

WOOPS!! I messed up the Link. Here is the correct Link:

https://www.americanfloormats.com/luxe-car-mats/

While not OEM correct, I thought these heavy 48oz. carpet mats look good. What do you all think ?

Rick,

The XJS was a bit unusual insofar that it didn't have a single fitted carpet as you will know. The footwell carpets are removable, held in place on the floor with a cutout for the accelerator stop and a plastic retaining strip underneath that clips behind the metal strip on the floorpan in front of the seat.

So, when people talk about "carpet mats", sometimes they mean these footwell carpets, and sometimes they mean mats that fit on top of the footwell carpets. To make it more confusing, sometimes these overmats are exactly the same shape as the footwell carpets.

Hope that makes sense.

Paul
