Default Parking brake warning light

HI,

I noticed that my parking brake warning light doesn't come on when I pull the hand brake,
So I took a look at the micro switch at the lever and found out it was broken, so I need to replace that, (anyone a good adres to buy from in Europe?)

But here it comes, on the micro switch there are 3 wires a black/ white one, a black/yellow one and a complete black ground wire which had the other end connected to a bolt that hold the lever in place
I assumed that when I hot wire these wires the warning bulb should go on. but it didn't
I took my volt meter to measure if these wires were hot or not, but I couldn't measure any volt's on those wires is this normal?

Or could it be that a fuse has blown and if so, what fuse controls the warning bulb?

You need a three pole switch like this one:

You can get them on Amazon etc. The common earth is the wire that goes to the bolt. Ignition on, one of the two other wires should be live, and earthing it should illuminate the warning light.

Actually, according to the diagrams, the park brake warning light on the dash has "+" voltage whenever the key is on. It operates when grounded/earthed by the switch, on the black/white wire. The black/yellow wire goes to the bulb check unit in the console.

Try grounding the black/white wire and see what happens

Cheers

That is what I was trying to say, as well Doug! As I understand it, the switch grounds one or other of the wires depending upon whether the handbrake lever is on or off. The key point is ignition on, before testing.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

I'm on my first cuppa coffee. And the sun was in my eyes !

In local parlance, at least, a "live" wire = positive voltage. Some call it a "hot" wire. None of the wires associated with the switch carry positive voltage. It's all ground/earth wires. Positive voltage is provided to the bulb at the instrument cluster.

But any wire carrying electrons, be it 12 volts positive or completing a ground circuit, can certainly be called "live", I reckon !

Cheers
