If you want quick and cheap power delete or gut your CATS, and all mufflers except the rear resonators as they help with the lawn mower noise, then cut out the front face of the filter box and fit K&N filters. ECU tuning is an expensive and time consuming option where you have to send it to England so a wizard can work on it with some ancient 1980s electronic diagnostic equipment.

There is very little more power to be had on a V12 by messing around with the ECU, with the sole exception of the AJ6 Engineering stuff, which is a combined ECU and intake package of improvements supplied by an ex Jaguar engine engineer. I have this on my car and it made a very big difference to its response and high-speed performance. After that the limiting factor on an HE engine is the breathing at revs above 4,500 or so, and to improve that requires head work. The only other option is to use a pre HE engine, again with much internal work including capacity increases, in which case after substantial expense and effort, large BHP increases can be obtained.

Unfortunately Mr. Bywater is slowing down, as he is in his 80s and there isn't anyone else to take up the task. We're going to need a drop-in solution sooner rather then later.

How much are those Johns Cars Quarterbreed kits again? Transmissions are dirt cheap. After the exhaust and intake mods, I think 4 speed GM is the next low hanging fruit.

V12 Quarterbreed Conversion

After that, I don't know if it would even fit, but W140 class Benzes are also dirt cheap on ebay. Would make an interesting lump.

This is a serious worry, I agree. Where do owners go from here if they have an ECU problem?
Is a drop in replacement ECU system for Lucas cars something we can find or develop at reasonable cost?
I feel what is needed is a direct replacement that can be bought and installed without the owner needing to do any tuning, rolling road work, etc etc. Is the fuelling/throttle position/vacuum load-sensing/RPM ECU map available for the OEM ECU so it can be reproduced?
I know nothing about such systems; but it would be somewhat tragic if an XJS could not be run because of lack of a suitable ECU.
