Default Radiator packed up.

As in Packed up and ready to go to be Re-cored.

This is not the one off my current car, this is off my other one which I want back on the road asap.

She's been sitting outside on my Lifter for the last 16 years!

Initially due to family problems and then got put on the back burner while I was sorting out my grey XJS.

So the first thing that I had to do was to make a box, which was constructed from scraps I had laying around.

Hard to believe that I came last in my Woodworking Class but if anyone needs a Hand Made fitted kitchen, let me know and I'll add your name to my list.

The next thing to do was to pad it with lots of protective sponge, which came from a roll of under bonnet/hood sound insulation.

And then even more protective foam.

Finally put the lid on and Screw it all down

Just wondering if I ought to add some rudimentary packaging instructions?

Like FFS get a Screwdriver! this lid won't come off all by itself.

OB,

That seems a marvellous, comprehensive job! But isn't it going to raise the postage costs massively?

I'm sure that they post out rads with just a bit of bubble wrap and plenty of tape. The key element is that they have sheets of cardboard covering the matrix.

Still, at least you'll have another toolbox when it comes back!

Looking good.

Did you make that pattern for the orientation of the mountng studs as Greg recommended????

The rad guys are dumb in this area and sure as s&^t they will get them wrong. Then you have to do Grants fit WITHOUT those pins, HAHA.

It looks like it shall travel well.

Wowee, going almost around the world??

1. I like to "'play" with my wood working tools. I call it "making saw dust. Big stuff. smallish table saw and a miter saw.

2. A decade or so ago, I sold the radiator from my XJ6 wuzza six to a guy in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some padding and cardboard with lots of packing tape. it made it just fine. Honor system. I shipped, he paid.
He was amazed at the "trust" system. Not applicable where he was raised... Sad.

Now you tell me!

I was absolutely convinced that if I did the bubble wrap thing, you would be saying I should have put it in a wooden box with lots of foam (Lol)

But I did have a bit of a laugh doing this, as I was going to buy a suitcase and when they asked what size I wanted, I told them I needed it big enough to put a Radiator in.

Which got some very Strange looks!

Maybe they thought I was going to bring one home from a Hotel as a Souvenir.

But postage isn't a problem, as they have a contract with a Firm who picks these up all the time, so the weight doesn't make any difference.

Maaaaaaaaate,

I totally forgot about doing that, because when I looked at the Pins on the Rad, there didn't seem to be anyway that they could get them wrong, because they go right on the ends of the metal fixing strip.

So they seemed to be Self locating.

They are really going to hate me, with all those Screws I put in, they seemed to take forever, so they will probably get out a Crowbar and open the other side that I nailed shut.

Hi Carl

That wouldn't work where I live, it might not even get there as it is!

I can appreciate good attention to shipping. I had a guitar shipped to me once where the fool thought that using plastic soda bottles with the caps screwed on was adequate padding.
