Default Rear quarter window panel

I am trying to remove the interior rear panel in order to get to the window motor on my 1991 pre face lift convertible. Mine does not have the back seat. After removing the 3 visible screws work came to a stand still. Does anyone know where I go from here? From what I can make out the seats must out, the carpet pulled up to see whats under it that hold that panel in.
Thanks

Here's a pic. On my 92 it looks the same. I screw accessible with the window down and 2 or 3 press studs down the front along the door frame. I had a rear seat fitted in 93 so I cant remember if, and it doesn't show, any other fixing points. Later cars had a press stud behind the window instead of the screw.

If it's similar to the facelift, and it sure looks it, there are two plastic push pins to pop off along the latch side of this panel. They are hidden, but you should be able to get something in that panel seam and pop them off.

The only other thing to be concerned about is the door threshold might pin down the bottom corner. You can either shimmy that out, or pop up the threshold.

Thanks for all the help getting that panel off. It wasn't hard just very intimidating in a way I didn't want to do any unnecessary work along with bending, breaking or tearing anything. Once off I can see how everything goes together or comes apart. The reason for all this is I'm going to install switches to control those quarter rear windows instead of the troublesome conv top/window setup. A friend on another Forum (Jag-Lovers) did a great thread that sold me on this modification . Thanks again everyone you've been a great help.

Where will you put the switches?

Please consider taking pictures and sharing your experience!

Yes! Pictures would be great and switches are a great idea.

Lol,,, I honestly don't remember the result of this. Since I've had her she has presented me with so many twists, never mind the twists of,,,,, oh nevermind, lol

I think that once I just left the top latched and hit the open button. The windows went down, top up. It's nice.

Wondering,,, with the switches,,, would that disable the auto function or just give you more control when not opening the top?

First I got the panel off and located the two window motor wires on the left/drivers side. Each switch has 4 wire's one positive +, one ground -- and two that connect directly to the two motor wires at the motors plug. . I got all the wiring done at the motors . I still haven't decided where to mount the switches The man that started this mod mounted his in that square in back of the center console. I also saw someone mounted them hidden inside the center console storage. I'll post a pic when I get the switches in.
Yes the whole idea of this mod is to operate the two rear quarter windows via the two new switches , they have nothing to do with the tops operation. .

I mounted mine in the little square at the back of the center console. Mine worked great, and then they didn't. Drrrrrrr! They are both getting power, just not working right. I guess I have to pull them at some point and see about getting them rebuilt

The first thing I'd check is all ground wire connections that comes off the switches I soldered all my wire to wire connections I utilized all 4 original plugs coming off the motors & caped off (wire nuts) the 4 old harness ends where I cut the plugs off. I think the switch wires pos+ and neg-- are only a 18 gauge.. I'm still debating where to mount the switches. I'm "kinda" leaning toward inside the center console storage. That way there hidden ????

When I did mine I put another complete setup of the relays from a breaker car into the boot/trunk. I use a push button under the armrest lip that switches a relay to send the roof button, which now just controls the 2 windows, and an earth (no need for park brake ) to the second set of relays and the windows now go up and down with the roof in any position. Apart from running 2 wires from the push switch to the new relay cluster, all the wiring is done in the boot/trunk so no messing around in the front
Another tip... My rear windows have never functioned correctly from new. I found that if I don't let them go completely to the bottom they work nearly a 100% of the time... it was an easy fix (bodge), I fixed a nut and bolt in the slider to stop it from going all the way down.

Here's a couple pic's of the rear quarter window switch's that control those windows on my 91 conv . This way they work completely separate from the conv. top operation, BTW I have another set of stock black switch's & instructions I bought of another Forum member sent me a PM if interested
