Default Rear trans mount removal, 1988 TH400

I see instructions (for motor trans removal), remove rear trans mount, be careful of the spring.

Well,

there are several removal option.

The four bolts that hold the cross member to the body, though the exh pipes are in the way of two of the bolts and the mount.

Two bolts (maybe more, i can't see in there), that hold a bracket to two trans pan bolts, behind that two bolts that hold that bracket to what is probably the spring perch, and the center spring bolt.

I assume removal is via the four X mount to body bolts, and drop teh entire assmbly until the driveshaft rests on that metal pan under the drive shaft?

I am loathe to try and separate all the exh pipe components as it looks like i have to start at the very back and work forward, and separating those slip joints, even in stainless, is a LOT of work.

I was thinking about just using a Sawzall and cutting the pipes and use band clamps to reattach the cut ends during reassembly.

Is the front of the drive shaft connected to the trans via a normal splined slip joint and when pulling the motor/trans, it just pops out of the end of the trans and dumps trans fluid all over the floor?? I have tailshaft plugs to prevent that, but those only work with exposed drive shafts that can be removed prior to transmission removal.

No slip joint at the front end of the driveshaft. It's a round flange with four bolts....just like you have at the differential end.

The mating flange on the output shaft of the transmission is held in place with a central bolt as illustrated here, lower right

As for the transmission mount, well, enough years have gone by that I can't remember any gruesome details....so I can't offer any specific advice. But I can commiserate. Jaguar had a real love affair with needlessly complex transmission mounts!

Cheers

Skip to 4:50. It doesn't appear from the video to leave many options other than moving the exhaust out of the way.

Well, OK then.

I guess the entire driveshaft removes with the trans after the four rear driveshaft to differential flange bolts are removed? I do see a slip joint in the middle of the driveshaft.

I got the four rusted rear flange bolts removed after having to drill and split one side of each nut with a chisel. Not enough room to get a box end around the nuts and the open end just rounded the nut corners. Didn't want to use heat due to the pinion seal.
