Remove pinstripe?
Has anyone else removed the pinstripe on their car? I need to carefully scrape mine off as the clearcoat is failing around it. I don't want to scratch it up anymore than necessary, and removal via cleaners might be too harsh.
The failing clearcoat probably rules out conventional methods, but pin stripes can be removed with a pinstripe removal tool: 3M 03612 4" x 5/8" Adhesive Eraser Wheel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005RNGN8I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L66IBbR0SSCX7
A plastic scraper can work, leaving minimal buffing work. The last time I did one, a heat gun only got the majority off in the big pieces. What didn't come off with a scraper I used 2000 grit on, then I buffed the whole thing out with compound and polish.
My original stripe on my XJS is flaking off badly, and would likely come away easily with a scraper. Any amount of sanding is going to bring on the clear coat peeling faster, but you have to just get used to the fact that ones it goes, it goes. It is all the same age and the only variance in the failure is the exposure to the sun due to angles and variations in paint thickness.

I have had success with a hairdryer set to the hi setting and a plastic scarper, and as stated earlier an old credit card works well
