Default Repairing Pot Metal Door Handle

I have a 1996 Jaguar XJS with the AJ16 engine.

So a pot metal arm that is crucial to making my door handle work, snapped. I'd give a part number, but there isn't one, so I'll attach a photo.

Does anyone know if a repair is plausible? I've looked up "muggyweld" and "tech-bond". Tech-bond seems to be the one that might work, but I'd thought I would check in here to see if anyone knows about repairs to a part that will see plenty of torque. Most repairs talk about "filler" repairs.

Thanks.

I had almost the exact same break but on the arm of a Porsche door handle and NOTHING worked or gave promise of working long term, cept a "new" handle. My opinion (sadly) is to try to start tracking down a good used handle. Jus say'n

All you can do is grind off the rivet holding the spring/arm combo, then have a machine place make a new arm out of steel, and then use a bolt to replace the rivet. But there are loads of handles on UK ebay.

Not for facelift cars...

I've found a NOS, and that's on it's way. I will see if an upgrade repair can be made to the old one since it won't be doing much work.

On way to reduce the odds of this happening is to make sure the pivot points are lubed.

It has been feeling a bit “chunky”. I’d feel a satisfying snap with each door opening....

FYI, Vee I am pretty sure that the XJ40 door handles are the same, and they are all over ebay in the UK too.

I'll have better pics once I get it off the car. Replacement is on the way.

The XJ40 do appear similar....they have different part numbers, but appears to be the same....interesting.

That piece is not that complicated that it cant be made out of brass stock from a hoppy shop. Copy on to stock and then file to replica.

It's literally part of the handle and then extends through the frame to the links as one solid piece.

It's complicated. It will require a graft, not a replicate.
