I see what y'all are talking about. Those are the little press fit guides (rubber),,,, filled with grease,,, for the moving parts (the pins) of some calipers. They have little toothed caps. Used to shield the rider pins on the inner moving section of the caliper... And no,,,, I don't think you'll be needing these for a xjs front brake caliper.
I'm reading "CALIPER BRUSH", to brush off dust and dirt... They are trying to sell you something extra... Up sell...
If you pop the pistons out of the calipers be very careful on inspection. If the car sat a long time, I think you said it had, the cylinder walls and pistons themselves can be very messy and creating a seal can be tough. Money certainly WAS an object for me,,, but I out and out replaced all four calipers front and back and kept it moving. That IMHO is worth the $$$$. Rock also has a great core charge policy...
Grant has a lot of good things to say about the front end and brakes, bearings, and shims. Not as easy and straightforward as a Corolla by any means.
I'm hoping I dont have to rebuild the calipers. Just give then a good cleaning and paint.
I was just selecting everything under the brake section lol.
Saturday is when I'll starting pulling it all apart. Gonna start with the lf as that's the only one that doesnt seem to be sticking lol.
So I've been trying to wrap my brain around why this bolt (in red #10) wont go into its home (in red #15). It just wont catch at all. I've tried everything. It's a tight spot but I can get it into position with some extensions etc. I'm wondering if the threads in #15 got messed up. I was thinking if I can get a tap into it maybe I can repair it.
So does anyone know the tread type/size of this bolt?
I am pretty sure it is a UNF thread. Undo 13 and detach 3, and you can pull down the item and get at it better. grinding a 45 degree taper onto the bolt threads often helps, and you can get it started and then remount everything before tightening it up.

I did file the end of the bolt to see if that would help. I'm was hoping not to remove #13 because its tight As it is. But looks like you might be right Greg. Ugh. Oh well such is life. I'm already looking forward to spring to see this car move under it's own power
Well I ordered a set of posi bits and they came in today. Also cleaned up the mess I made over the past too weeks. So now I'm ready to take the front end parts off.
It begins. I've seen worse. Hoping once i start removing everything it wont be that bad lol. Everything is soaking right now. Just the LF side. No rush. Spring is 6 months away lol
So got the driver side all off. Man those hub bolts are in a tight spot. I didnt think I was gonna get then out. Took some maneuvering and my 220lbs on the wrench to break them loose lol. Anyways here's it apart. Also #4 in the last doesnt exist on my hubs. Did they stop doing that in 88 and just made it so you greased everything before you reassembled?
Hopefully someone is reading this still lol.
I'm off the next 2 weeks so gonna try and get stuff done.
Also got a guy coming to appraisal so I can finally get the car actually put in my name lol.
