yea really strange, i had to knock some hose loose. She was running great, even the idling was getting real close to normal. now when i give it gas its gogging somewhat, and is really idling high 1500 when cold starting and settles at about 1200, or 1300 or so.

ok,( i found a disconnected hose ) on the aux air valve is a hose coming off 3/4or so, then off of this hose is a smaller attached hose. its going to nothing it looked as if it was running over towards the dist. i see nothing to attach it to.

I don't entirely understand your posting but one of the AAV hoses has a a smaller hose piggy-backed to it. That smaller hose goes to the distributor as part of the distributor vent system.

Cheers

That would be the one, the one thats piggy backed, except that would have no bearing on the high idling or bogging down when given accelleration. With that being assumed. there is one more hose that is not connected and it is the one that has the air filter looking gadget on it above the left fender well, it runs toward the windshield takes a left towards the passenger side then stops 1/2 way of the engine bay and is not connected to anything.

The line with the filter is also connected to the distibutor. One connects to a white-ish plastic tube on side of dist facing firewall, the other connects to the top of the dist cap.

The purpose of them is to prevent an explosion in the dizzy, caused by the build up of inflammable gasses. So I believe they are rather important. The system does not cause idling problems. If yours is disconnected, you can be sure the pipe it is meant to be connected to (under the LHS intake manifold, part of the AAV rubber tubing connecting the AAV to the LHS airbox) is drawing air straight in, rather than drawing it through the dizzy first!

Filter one goes to the side of the dizzy, the AAV one to the dizzy top.

Default Unisyn?

With all this said, will a Unisyn carb equalizer work on these motors?

the XJS is fuel injected

on a 4 carb v12 like an XJ12 or XKE you could probably use one but you would be much better with a proper gauge and not that little ball on the unisyn, its just not as accurate. If your question is related because the thread is about the suction not being equal, the intake and vacuum system on a fuel injected setup is entirely different and this difference in suction wouldn't be seen on a carb'd v12 (vacuum routing different, no AACV,etc)
