Tried front right and the rim touches the steering
I am not sure what I need to purchase….
Hallo. On a previous vehicle I used Garageline Spacers. Not sure if they're available in Deutschland but the important thing is that the spacer are not a design where the lugs just pass through them. The spacers need to have their own studs on them. More secure that way. Good luck. Mark aus Helmarshausen
The standard 7J x 16 wheels have a 28.5mm offset (ET). The Jaguar 8J x 6 lattice wheels have a 33mm offset (ET) and as you have discovered will foul the steering arm knuckle. I have had Jaguar 8J x 16 x 33(ET) wheel on my car and used these 5mm spacers to create sufficient clearance (33mm - 5mm = 28mm so the spacers restore the original ET). These are made in Germany from TunerShop
These are for a Jaguar XK8 but they also fit my XJS. It is important to get Jaguar specific spacers as they have a chamfer on the rear of the centre hole to match the hub. I have had Jaguar 8J x 16 x 33mm wheels on my car using 5mm spacers for about 5 years and not had any problems although you do have to get everything lined up when re-fitting the wheels because the wheel nuts fit though the hole in the wheel and don't have a chamfer to help get the wheel stud hole concentric with the stud.
You don't need spacers on the rear hubs but I did fit fit them on my car to maintain the track measurement front - rear and I thought they looked better.
You can fit spacers with their own lugs but you will be adding at least 15mm to each hub i.e. 30mm increase in track overall (although I think the thinnest ones I could find were 20mm) . This is ok at the front but be careful at the rear because the wider wheels and spacers may cause the tyres to rub on the wheel arch (fender). I tried this on my car and felt the overall increase was too much but that is simply a matter of personal choice.
If you want to increase the length of the front wheel studs then you can fit studs from a XJ40 which are about 5/16" longer. I have a set but haven't got around to fitting them yet. The studs at the rear are a different design and I have not managed to source longer ones.
Another useful resource is this site which allows you to compare different wheel and tyre combinations.
Concerning spacers: The road wheel on an XJS is hub-centric, that is the wheel is centally located onto the hub not by the studs, but by a conical female (wheel) to hub (male) machined surfaces. These cones are only about 5mm deep, but they are vital for wheel safe location. The wheel studs just hold the wheel in the correct position, they do not locate it in the correct position.
Thus, any spacers used must also be similarly machined: so that the spacer inside surface has a female cone that conically locates onto the hub male; and similarly the spacer must have a male conical protrusion on the outside to which the wheel female can conically locate.
Greg is absolutely correct regarding the hub-centric fitting for the Jaguar XJS wheels. On my car the centre hub on which the wheel locates protrudes 16mm from hub face. 16mm – 5mm Spacer = 11mm for wheel location. If you fit spacers with embedded studs then they must replicate the hub-centric fitting of the originals i.e. get Jaguar specific spacers with the correct dimensions.

My car with Jaguar celebration 8J x 16 x 33(ET) rims fitted with 225/55 x 16 tyres:
CS_XJS,
AFAIK, the standard XJS Celebration Aerosport wheels were 7J 16 with 28.5 ET. There were no spacers fitted or necessary on the cars when new.
Yes Paul you are correct and I apologise I didn't want to mislead anybody. When I bought the car I was an XJS newbie and assumed the wheels were standard Celebration Aerosport wheels and then when I removed them to bleed the brakes I was bemused to see the spacers and even more bemused to find the front wheels would not go back on without the spacers. I didn't know at the time that there was a very similar 8 x 16 JaguarSport wheel and the previous owner had fitted 4 of the version with a 33mm offset and that is what you can see in the first picture above. I believe there is a 8 x 16 version of this wheel with a 19mm offset specifically for the front but clearly the previous owner had not managed to source a pair of those. Not sure which version of XJS had these 8 x 16 look alike variation of the Celebration wheel.
I also meat to put in my original post that one should advise the insurance company if you fit wider wheels and spacers. I did and my insurers were ok with it.
