Default Thanks to Grant

Just to thank Grant for his write up on setting the V12 throttle rods etc. I had some cold and warm starting issues and bogging until the after a few minutes running the engine would run fine. I have just set my linkage up following Grants instructions and the car now starts on the button hot or cold no hint of bogging and runs as smooth as silk. The only slight issue is the idle speed fluctuates slightly only around 25 rpm from the std 750-800 idle speed. Other than this perfect. It doesn’t particularly bother me but any ideas. I did rebuild the AAV when I first got the car and think this is working ok with cold idle is around 1100 rpm settling to 750-800 after a few minutes warming up.

Thanks Rob, appreciated.

Idle fluctuation:

Mirror on a stick, warm the thing up, slip the AAV Intake hose off, look at the piston up the snout, is it closed 100%. If it is, GOODO. If not, do it again, you need the beer mate.
Really check that dumb elbow rubber thing on top of the AAV, they crack on the underside mainly.
Check the idle setting split voltage of the TPS. That will be 6 beers at least, but that sucker will cause that fluctuation in a heartbeat.
If its still running it, clean the PCV valve, that is an outsider, but I have had issues with them before I binned them. The valve that is, not the car.
CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor) getting old, flaky readings, not good for the V12. Bosch 0 280 130 026 is what I use.

A few write ups for light reading.

TPS spot on 0.32 checked before doing the throttle linkage. New CT sensor fitted the other week I think the old one was fine though. PCV valve cleaned about 1500 miles ago. It could be the AAV starting to stick again so will have another look at that. All the rubber hoses were good at the last AAV rebuild. The only other thing I have noticed is I have to have the hot idle screw wound all the way in to achieve 750-850 idle speed.

Got your pdfs in a folder for future reference. Hope thats ok. Anyway been for a drive beautiful and sweet as a nut. F%@k I love these cars. Tick over settles around 900 so is a bit to quick for my my liking. Been having another look at the throttle linkages and they aren’t set right. The bell crank ?? Is on its stop so doesn’t allow the throttle to close completely so have now adjusted that so the throttle now closes completely now I can set the proper 0.2mm gap on the adjusting screw. Will report back when the job is finished.
cheers for you help.

Goodo.

That file you have is perfect.

Keep at it, you will get it spot on.

Biggest thing is the capstan rotates that 2 or so mm before the throttle body arms start to move. Any less slack than that, and you will run into trouble. Many have the throttle body arms lifting off as soon as that capstan moves, NOPE, not happy V12.

Once they are spot on, they are Bloody Marvelous. So few have them at that "sweet spot" , but so close. That little bit more fine adjustments, WHOOPEE.

All sorted. Both sides now adjusted properly as per your instructions and perfect. Idle now a steady 750rpm with the AAV screw now in the mid way position not wound all the way in. I tried to upload a video but can’t seem to at the moment will have a go late. Cheers as always for your help Grant it makes owing one of these good fun.

Nice Robbo sound like you have gotten it sorted, I would like to do the same.

HI Grant

Any chance I could get a copy of your AAV document please?
Once I get the cage in... I am going to give the car a tune...

Thanks
