Are there any aftermarket speakers that won't need an amp?
Hello all;
i have a new pair of 6.5 Focals in the front and 6.5 Alpine speakers on the back. The Alpines are higher end than the Focal, but basically all four speakers are hopeless without an amp. the original Goodman speakers, before they blew, where more than pleasing to me, so much so, that if I find some "new old stock" OEM speakers I would buy them....I really hate the idea of running a cable from my trunk to the hot amp for the battery and all the other wiring cutting involved, but unless I am prepared to live with the crappy sound system and amp may be my only option, unless someone knows of some speakers that sound as good as the originals without an amp.
All opinions welcome

How did you fit 6.5" speakers in there?
I bought 6.5" Pioneer speakers a while ago on the previous 96 I had and couldn't get it to fit. Had to return it and get 5.25" speakers back there.
I'm running an aftermarket head unit, so the speakers work great for me.
I still have the original speakers in my car, which I'm planning on pulling out. You can have them when I pull them out. I have no idea what shape they're in, but so far they sound just fine.

Speakers/Deck
I'm not sure what degree of sound fidelity and volume you are ultimately looking for, however I changed out the stock door and rear speakers in my '89XJS Convertible for 4 Pioneer 6.5" round. I had no real problem fitting the fronts, I simply cut the hardboard and carpeting by 1/4" all round and fitted the Pioneer grills. The speakers themselves only required tweaking one area (with visegrips) to flatten a tab. The rear speakers required cutting the metal outer casing of the storage box by 1/4" all round, stuffing soft pink insulation in the void between the wood inner box and outer casing to keep the sound separated. I installed a nice Pioneer deck with USB and MP3 without any booster amp. I really love the sound, very clean. I'm also considering mounting a set of 4"or 5" speakers in the upper corner of the doors, you will see the area with the inner door off, and using the stock chrome grills there....but it may be too much. -Check my photos and original post regarding this work.

The Focals dropped right in the front and the Alpines where more difficult in the rear, had to end up modifying a couple of things.
I will definately take the speakers, if you don't need them .

Hello @Spikepaga I guess what you're looking for are active speakers..
As far as I know such things doesn't exist for cars...(and I thought about it in the past but don't get why not any manufacturer think about it).
Sadly you need amps and wires ...
