V12 5.3 HE transmission mount "******* bracket" analysis
What is my analysis for this bracket - it is sure, it is for strengthening of the construction. But why, if we see the same transmission, on other cars supported with(it seems) weak rubber damper... Moreover, bracket itself , seems to be welded in some garage, and not part of the mass-production(stamped, or poured).
I'm sure - it is patch. Geometry of the main part is not good - pivot(main bolt) is not on the line of the supporting bolts. As result, the forces up-down will create rotational force on this line.
And, probably, there was problems - evil kick-downs, for example. What is the solution, if car is already in production - patch "******* bracket".
NOTE, that this bracket is mount on places, which are NOT intended as supporting for the transmission!!!
What is the better solution, from the geometric view point - example on the right.
Possible problems - too tight space, there can be no space for the two additional bolts.
I have no idea of the bracket you are sketching, but me and "mudmaps" are not a match made in heaven..
I have NEVER ever had issues with that factory mount arrangement over many, many, many V12's.
Complicated, maybe.
Wrongly assembled by some Wombat, more than I can count.
As for stressed etc etc , not my thing.
We are Downunder, and drive our cars HARD, and many kms at a time. One is at 800K kms, and mostly as made in Coventry, pretty good in any language.
Never had a stress related issue with any of them..
I have attached the PDF I wrote a good many years ago about this mount, might clear the air a tad, hopefully.
Might also be a top idea to add your home base and the year of the beast, as different markets did have different items, sometimes. 5.3 HE is a good start, but to help us to help you, please fill in the blanks.

Hello & sorry for the first impressions Term "b@st@rd bracket" was seen in the forum, and I liked it! Thanks to the forum, I succeed to fire up the big cat, and started to repair it. I decided to buy to my son sport car, cose he looked at BMW 530, and Celica 2.0 XT, which I restored, seems to be under powered for him (1 year driver with total 2000km So, things started like this Thanks to all, for the info provided here!
I sometimes wonder how I managed to not injure myself or break anything back in 1988 when i first removed a V12 w auto trans from an XJS with no internet or manual or instructions.
of course I was 35 years younger.

I think I tossed mine over the hedge years ago. I'll have to go look ! My memory isn't what it used to be...and I seldom have to get under the car to do anything
Thanks a lot! So, I will not return it, and will not weld new mount. I must take a look carefully on kinematics of this spring+rubber damper, and figure out the idea of the damper washer 28. Same for the additional washers 8 - removed from me - not logical from the construction strength viewpoint. Now, thanks to Grant Francis I understand - it is fix of other mistake. As I said to my colleagues - one mistake should not be fixed with another mistake

Dont overthink a Jaguar, total waste of drinking time.
Some of the things I have seen over too many years, and way too many Jags, could fill a library, but WHY bother, it works, it proceeds from A to B, and back again.\\Back in the 60's and 70's, unsealed roads where we lived was NORMAL, and 200 miles to the nearest town of any size was a standard outing. The Jags all did what they did, and many hundred of thousands of miles (later become kms) without fuss or failure.
As mentioned m,any times, one of my PreHE is at 800K kms, and basically untouched. 2 of teh others are well imto teh 300K area. An XJ40 3.6, 675Kkms, and only stope when the key is removed.
They are that good, but reinventing the wheel (Aussie speak) is a waste of time for any car in my opinion.
As Elinor said DRIVE IT AS ITS DESIGNED, and worry about other things, like, whats for lunch, haha.
Sorting other peoples issues (Freddy Fiddler) is all part of the game, but not to the overkill in my opinion.
Yes, Grant Francis, I understand You right, just wanted not to make the construction too bad with my changes. So, in this case I will cut some 2mm plate with same shape, as aluminum part 5, to replace washers removed from me(8 in diagram), and will return damper washer(28 in diagram)
