It's actually a bad thing, but the xjs is too lovely a car to have remained so cheap imo.

Bad thing??? In my opinion it’s nice to see the the values on the up. I will still be driving mine whatever the value goes up to.

'Tis great when you go to sell as you have a chance of recouping the money you poured in.

Not so great when you want to buy.

I lament the situation, personally.

Cheers

Phil, I feel your pain. Over the decades I have relied on my personal phrase..."Wait for a Jag more to be more than 10yrs old and you buy for 10% of original MSRP". "More than 10yrs, the price will drop again." Not anymore for models that are now considered "classics". My Top 10 car bucket list had become unobtainium.

i can tell i been around these cars much to long!!
i can remember when E TYPES could be had for 1967 coupes $750. USD!
a nd nice roadster 1969 for $1500. hundred!
both ran good but USA cars were much more in demand!
my,my do times change things, not to forget , all these are really just OLD cars!

I dunno, it's become a great rarity these days in that it is a beautiful object which has remained affordable to people who can work on them themselves, hence forums like this.
It also says absolutely nothing about you.
I like that.
There are very very few etypes driven regularly or owner grease monkeyed these days.

Well I like to drive mine when I can and definitely do my own work. Working on the car is part of the enjoyment for me. I know what you mean though. I’m in a local classic car club and to be honest most of the other members wouldn’t know how or don’t want to work on their cars.

The question becomes, what would you replace the XJS with should it get totaled in an accident, or stolen?

Even though I believe inexpensive (enough) XJS' are still out there, it isn't the bargain it used to be.

It’s definitely not the bargain it was but surely anyone with any sense would insure their car with an agreed value policy to protect themselves from this. My car has agreed value insurance of 25k which I will increase this year to make sure I’m covered.

There are not many that have extremely high values. They are those with few kilometers (miles) and original paintwork without damage. And everything working and original. Bought mine 4 years ago in USA for $11,000 and now insured for $30,000.

I don't have a garage, therefore a charging station would be a heavy lift for me. Electrical does not suit me unfortunately.

Also, not aware of a Tesla convertible....not in the last 20 years anyways.
