Just to find out, that the car has some imperial threads... Crud...
On top of that, I'm trying to get those f**king injectors refitted. One has got a f**ked end cap (where the injector spraydirection is determined). And I can't find any shops that can sort it... Piece of sh*te! This car is now getting on my nerves!

Now that it is November, and snow will fly here in Michigan any time now, I have registered and insured the car for the first time since we towed it home 2 years ago, after she sat in the PO's garage for 8 years before that. The plate on the car will be 10 years expired next month. My license plate is yet to arrive, coming by mail, or so they say. But we did get out on the road, put about 5 miles on the car. I have been through the ignition and believe it is working pretty well but I get misfires under load, I am suspecting crud in the injectors. The PO put new rubber lines on them and a new fuel filter on, and I fabricated a new injector harness but that is as far as fuel system repairs have gone, I suspect they will be going further. But she did run better the further we drove, brakes and suspension felt good, steering not so good, the rack is moving on the mounts. New mounts ordered last night, as well as new key blanks, I could not locate any at local key makers. Overall a good day, and we made it home without walking, no overheat, no leaks and no conversations with the local cops. Now if I can make the wipers work...

Fitted replacement speedo, got old and replacement rev counters mixed up so fitted cleanest one and replaced all the bulbs with BLUE led's and cleaned the whole gubbins up.
Unfortunately can't try it all yet as am at work and not home until next week.
Still, nice and shiny!

Connected the steering up again. All metric down there now (hate to change between imperial and metric over and over again). Have also decided to replace my silencers with straight pipes (the middle ones) and to make the pipe from down pipe to axle bend wider
Also, as I was under the car, I noticed the previous owner bodged the oilcooler pipes. Instead of being crimped they are clamped on. So they will be replaced soon aswell.
Not far from starting. Just need a new injector... At least if Bosch can't provide a replacement cap...

I replaced the door handle.
The lock barrel swap was way easier than I expected (I honestly thought there'd be springs flying everywhere and parts just falling out of the assembly) and it was really more time consuming than anything.
It would have gone so much smoother if I'd pulled the window, but I had no idea how to, and didn't want to spend time looking it up, so an hour of my job was probably comprised of picking up and dropping tiny nuts.
The lock is a little more fidgety now (need to jiggle the key a little more) but it works.
Unfortunately, I've got a cassette stuck in the AJ8700 that I have to figure out how to extract without destroying the deck...

Pulled the fuel tank sending unit and cleaned 20 years of crappy gas of it. Now the gas gauge seems to read right. Was going open and reading increasingly low on the low end backing bad economy look worse.
Oh, also went to get the CA SMOG test done and she passed, reasonably well, and better than 2 years ago.

So, I just heard back from my mechanic's shop, and they've diagnosed the clunk and tick as previously mentioned, found the appropriate gaskets, and apparently replacing an exhaust manifold gasket is an eight hour job? They've suggested taking it to a specialist, which I will (I mean, it sounds like now's the perfect time to get that exhaust system done anyway) but still - eight hours?
Is that accurate, or are they high*?
* Both in the sense that they are vastly inflating the time required to complete the job, and they they're intoxicated.

I reckon they are pretty close.
Its a mongrel job, and sooooo much stuff in the way.
Short cut, take the engine OUT, and do ALL those other bucket list items you will mess with one by one (duplicating labour everytime) for the next 10 years, then forget it for another 25+ years. Thats what i did.
BUUUUUT, if you dont want to get your hands dirty, do what you need and pay what is asked, and enjoy it till the next thing bites you.

Yolanda (wife) reckons I have withdrawals since the last of the V12's left the building. Might put a HE on carbies in it, just because.
I'm not allowed to put a V12 in either if the current S Types. Last one in a MK2 was the last straw in her opinion. Silly girl, V12's sooth the soul, EVERYONE knows that.
I reckon LOTS of JD is going to be consumed on this sucker.
