Tropical storm Isaias whipped through our area knocking out power at home and at work. Our generator is working overtime, and the internet came back on this morning. I spent the last 2 days detailing to my heart's content...

looks great! Do you use clearcoat sealant? I have been loving Jetseal lately.

I ordered the AC rebuild kit...will be attempting to do a rebuild to end my ac leak and belt it directly to the engine since I deleted my 90lb useless air pump.

No, just simonize wax. The car was pretty clean, but I think it has been a long time since she had a deep clean. The car is in really great condition cosmetically. Mechanically it's not bad and will need some attention to basic maintenance on age related stuff. Everything is working as it should at the moment. I am planning to bring it by a local garage that specializes in older Jaguars and have them take a look at it. I am just too unfamiliar with it at this point, and we still have a few months of really good weather and I'd like to enjoy some of it driving before I start going through it. There'll be 6 months of winter for that!!

Excised the 400lb Fred Flinstone-era AC compressor and nearly threw my back out doing so, also received my 10mm racing spec cable leads finally, AND new filter box housing to build an alternative cold-air intake system.

I intend to (in no particular order)

Rebuild AC compressor and replace the blown rings, belt it directly to the wheel no idle arm.
Steamclean the filthy dusty engine bay and possibly fit a fine mesh behind the grilles to prevent dust build up
Ceramic coat my spare filter housing - manifolds - cam covers - exhaust headers for the ultimate cold air/head reduction setup
Replace garbage off-brand cable leads
Drink excessively.

Engine bay picture without AC unit - beer can for scale.

They SAY,,, they like to be driven... So that's all I did...
Hit a few country dirt roads to boot.
Longest trip in a day... 450miles...
I think she was happy bout it...

Las couple days. Removed carbon canister and replaced that short hose from the pump to the bridge pipe.

Default goodbye pcv valv

my pcv valve had packed up and i had been toying with the idea of an oil catch tank, so i set about buying a kit of parts to fit one, i cut the end of the pcv and removed the innards and refitted it to the air filter, i sealed the hole in the air filter ( I wonder now if that's a good idea) that would normally let any oil in, i mounted a small glass oil catch tank to the wing brace bar, fitted a 19mm-10mm reducer to the air filter attachment and the crank case rubber elbow and connected hoses to and from the catch tank, end result absolutely no change to engine running, and with 200 miles + and significant signs of oil in the catcher whole kit of parts under £100.00

Where did you find that nice glass bowl catch tank? A very smart job overall.

Did you test suction from the engine breather elbow before plugging it all in? I only ask because I was suprised how much it sucks at idle, solved all my oil leaks while the engine is running. Had my unit for over a month now very very little collected so far but peace of mind knowing its not clogging up the intakes etc.

Came to nightshift with Jag, spent 4 hours by washing and applying fresh wax and deep shine. Think she is fine. Did same for my Rover last night, did i say that i actually hate washing and waxing... Now, back to work...
Should not play this much on nightshifts, not 25y stallion any more. I can feel all this effort soon.

New resonator exhaust tips, abit larger than I expected but it gave the growl I wanted and seemed to tone down the unpleasant notes.

Already had gutted cats, 2" pipes X-pipe and high flow mufflers to side exits but the tips really help Im surprised. It only took 5 years of fking with the exhaust to produce something decent...LESSON LEARNED.

Easier to list what I didn't buy .....

Biggest item a pair of Quick Jack BL-5000SLX - not exactly for the XJS only but the XJS was the motivator so I can drop the subframes.

I purchased the SLX because I can use this on my other cars that are slightly smaller, you can also buy an EXT addition if larger is needed because of jacking locations.

Bought an ex MOT station gas analyser - (previously used a Gunsons G4125) so this will be something of a restoration in itself.

Over the course of the week I've ordered just about every bush, pipe, hose, caliper rebuild stuff, for front and rear, likje I said - really too much to list - I did order and subsequently cancel a radiator due to incompatibility - next on the list is 5 tyres -

The way the weather seems to be headed though I'm now not so sure I'll get this done before the winter hits us and I don't work outside in winter (yeh I'm a wimp - deal with it - the years of rolling around under a car in the cold and wet are behind me) - garage us regrettably full

Bought a nice set of used rims and new tires and got them on the car today. Couldn't wait to go for a spin. A few minutes in I noticed the speedometer had stopped working, after about 10 minutes started working again. Hmmn. It was warm here today and the A/C is working pretty good. I then realized I never tried the heater. That wasn't so good, no heat. Switched back to the A/C. Now that stopped blowing out the front vents and was coming out on the floor, defroster, and a little out the A/C vents. Oh well, other than that she is running well.

I replaced the left hand side coolant temperature sensor... Runs even better when cold now. Between that and fixing the fuel line pressure I seem to have mostly eliminated hard starts. Feeling pretty good even if they're little things

I replaced the windscreen gasket yesterday and sealed it today. It was a PITA, but it works. Just had a thunderstorm and the inside of the car is dry. Still need to put the trim and wipers back on.
