Default What are my lugnut options? 1988 xjs

My wheels look, well, OK, but the lunuts look like hell, and are mismatched, mostly long ones with few short ones mixed in.

I don't want t spend a fortune on lugnuts, not $50/nut like Ferrari wants for some of theirs..

If they were all identical, i could sand blast and Cerkote them matte black, but with mismatch, that isn't ideal.

Are there inexpensive generic replacements that fit the wheels? Chrome or black is fine. The wheels seem to be hub centric, and not nut centric like some other cars.

Thanks,
Doug

The wheels are hub centric. The nuts, as you can see, have large flat washers round the threaded tube part that clamp the alloy wheels. I do not think that there are generic 1/2 inch UNC threaded nuts that have this feature, which is safety critical.
The best thing is to pick some up from a breaker or ebay. Lots in the UK ebay (called wheel nuts over this side):

The Gorilla nuts' washers are not captive, which is a slight bummer.

To state the obvious, whatever you choose just make sure the shank part of the lugnut is a proper fit thru the wheel.

This is something I've been interested in myself for my 96 Celebration wheels. Like Land Rover, Jaguar in their infinite wisdom decided to complicate an uncomplicated part and making an unfailable part one that can easily (and will) fail by using a chrome sleeved lug. If you haven't come across one that has swollen up, rusted, rounded off, or generally just been treated like a normal lug nut then you soon will if you own either of these makes. And then you will swear never again.

To that end, I was able to replace those damned lugs on my Rover, but haven't been able to easily locate ones for my Jag, because of its age I guess. However I did find this one source below, and I reached out to them, but I never moved forward. Below is the email response I got from them in regards to whether these would work for my Celebration wheels. Perhaps you will and can report back to us?

The XJS can be a bit tricky.

Some of the wheels were manufactured with a slightly smaller wheel pocket where the wheel nut shank goes in, causing the nut not to be able to fit in the pocket. We have had a few cases of this and the customers have had to have the wheel nuts machined down or the wheel nut hole in the wheel drilled out to get them to fit.

If you measure the holes in the wheel from the back, and they are all 19mm in diameter where the nut shank would go, then the wheel nuts wwe are able to supply will go in the wheels OK.

Sorry it's not straightforward!

That's a Ford thing. I dealt with it on both My XJR and XE, but its not the problem here.

Doug,
I have about 50 or so random used Jaguar lug nuts in my parts bins.
PM me with a pic of one of them side view OFF the car.
Let me know how many you need, a fair offer/per nut with shipping.
