Default XJS 4.0 facelift 1992 radio code

Hi Mates,

I have read like every thread on every forum about this radio code issue. New owner of the car since 5 days Thing is that i have the correct code, both card and checked with Jaguar International. Also understand that some people solved it by leaving ignition on for plus 1 hours to let the system "reset" after failed attempts. This does not work either. My question is:

Q: When entering the 4 digit code - will i get any beep or visible sign in the little ---CODE--- screen that acknowledges that each number is correct or at least any sign of life? In my case i press the code but nothing happens at all, screen just shows ---CODE--- and nothing changes or sounds.

Not sure you’ve seen that video, but maybe it’ll help?

Thank you!
I have seen them but does not apply to my issue. Those are when you do not have the code or a unit does that not have power/broken. Thank you anyway!

It's been a while since I had a 92 XJS, but my recollection from that and a 94 XJ12 is that after entering the code the radio just turns on/comes to life. There is no additional tone or beep or anything in the screen to confirm the correct code has been entered. Does it beep when you're pressing each button of the code? I seem to recall mine did, but I'm going from memory.

OK. It sounds like you might not have the right code. Who's to say a previous owner didn't replace the radio. They are 30 years old now....wouldn't shock me to learn that the radio has been replaced since 1992.

Are you going slowly? Hold each number in for 1 second and observe security lamp for flashing. You can't just punch numbers in.

Thanks everyone for answers. I have tried all and conclusion must be that the radiois replaced. Disconnected battery also to reset but still does not accept code or give any beep or sign in the screen when pressing the code. Will go for an aftermarket stereo.

Assuming you want to keep the radio you have, the link I sent you shows you how to reset the code to 1324

It could also have the code written somewhere on the body of the radio.

Good choice. I don't care for keeping any stock radio, much less one that's 30 years old!

Congratulations on your new car!

You're going to want speakers too I think. Please let us know how the installation of the head unit goes. I have an early facelift (6/91) and the unit was secured with rivets that had to be drilled out

LeTissier,

The Alpine units are very good imo. I fitted a CDE185BT to my late XJS. The easiest way is to buy a cheap Jaguar to Alpine ISO wiring adapter on ebay. Just a few bucks and you can then leave the original wiring plug intact for any future retrofit.

On the late units, the fitment bracket is a straight drop-in replacement, not sure on a 91/92? I placed the mic just by the instruments (I'll drop some fitment pics later if you want to see anything)

Call back here if you get stuck

Good luck

Paul

I have read that also. I guessed it was screws but googled it and now know what a rivet is. I expect the radio dealer knows what he is doing...hehe. Out of curiosity, how to get the new stereo attached if there are no screw holes to use?

Rivets again, easy and cheap for the installation.

Thanks guys!
New Alpine in today, bluetooth, handsfree etc. Sounds rather OK for the age of the speakers (I'm a sound nerd). Mechanic was cursing the rivets and i quote "British engineering is a total disaster" haha. He fixed the antenna as well so it works as intended.
