Default XJS gets pole, Bathurt 1985

Damn, look at Tom Walkinshaw go! He's using every bit of the track and really thrashing this wicked XJS during qualifying. There's more footage, including some in-car, in-race stuff, but it won't embed here. Watch that on the blog.

Hum, all over the road. I do think my XJS is smoother riding.

Absolutely love it! Let me guess, the stock automatic transmission was recycled as a boat anchor. :-)

The full story of how the XJS was turned into a very fast racer is in Allan Scott's book. An absolute must for anyone interested in that abpect of the cars:

I remember watching it was a great qual time for the day.

Back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, touring cars were analog monsters, and the Mount Panorama Circuit was yet to be sanitized for safety.

Remember Tom did a 2:18 in qualifying

Scott Mclauchlan did a 2:03 in 2017 that is 15seconds faster

But that does not tell the whole story in 1987 the circuit was modified with the addition of the chase lengthening Conrod straight.
