Default Hard hot start

I don't know if this is the proper place to ask a question, but I have a 1994 XJS convertible 2+2 with the 4L engine. It starts just fine first time in the AM but once it has run for several minutes and is shut off, it is difficult to restart. It can three to four attempts before it restarts. I have changed out the water temp sensor that is mounted on the thermostat housing and checked its wiring to no avail. Any help will be most appreciated.

Will it start with the MAF unplugged? (that should force it to be in closed loop)

Please excuse my lack of real knowledge and understanding about what you have suggested, but what is the MAF and what does closed loop mean?

If its just several minutes, I doubt its a vapor issue, but easy to pull the gas cap to double check, right?

MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor

Should give you the general taste of what is open/closed loop.

Vee, is this info also pertinent to an AJ6 engine in my 1994 XJS 2+2? Thank you for your continuing help. I am seeing my mechanic on Monday next and will give him this info.

I’m not sure you have the charcoal canister.... it probably doesn’t apply to an AJ6, sorry about that.
