Default '10 XK - Suspension Noise

It sounds like its coming from the front left but there seems to be a bit of a clunking noise as I crest over a speed bump or while cornering while braking.

I thought I saw a service bulletin on this issue but I can find it now and the dealer doesnt know what i'm talking about.

The dealer did have a look and changed some bushings but the noise is still there. I dont think its effecting the handling but I just hate the fact that the noise is there.

Any Thoughts!?

Mine does the same, in the front left also. I've been living with it. Let me know if you find something...

Could it be something to do with Dynamic mode?

From what I understand, when you activate Dynamic mode, it 'tightens' the suspension ...along with the other obvious power and shift adjustments.

Could it be related to this by any chance?

Anyone with a better understanding of what happens with the suspension in Dynamic mode is welcome to comment and/or elaborate.

My experience with modern gas-pressure (sic) shocks is that they make various clunking noises when the high pressure gas has leaked out, meaning failure.
Do a quick visual check of the front shocks and compare looking for signs of oily dirt, which is an indication of shock failure.

Hey Rey,
Yep, good point. Car is in the shop at the moment to have the dash replaced so I cant physically check it myself, however since the car has been in the shop for this problem previously, I certain hope that the technicians did do this basic check first.
Having said that, and presuming that the shocks are in fact ok, could it be an internal issue with the shock??

Well ...apparently the noise i hear is 'normal'.
The shop changed out a variety of components to test them, noise still existed. So we took a brand new '12 out that had like 70km's on it ...guess what, it did it as well.
Dont get it ....but like djgold said, i'm gonna have to live with it.

My 07 XK had the same issue. It turned out to be a bad computer controled shock. One could see the oil/fluid leak on the shock. Replaced same and problem fixed.

Thanks tarhealcracker,

But how do you explain the noise coming from a brand new '12 XK with 70 kmp's on it?

There's no way the shocks on that thing would be bad.

Besides, after all the f'ing around the shop did, I HOPE they would have noticed that the shock was bad and leaking oil.

I had something similar on my 2009 XKR; a squeak/clunk noise coming from front (both sides) when slow cornering or when going slowly over speed bumps. Turned out to be 'rubber/plastc isolator washers' between the suspension springs and top mount. The isolators where of a slightly different design to the ones which replaced them. Not sure whether this could be same issue as you had.

Keep us posted on this.

My money is on the shock as one can fail at any age, they have tried most everything else and they may be avoiding it as it is the single most expensive component in your suspension.

I hope I'm wrong but you need a fix.

Reviving an old thread here. Ejjbee, did this fix it?

At my 15K service I reported a scrunching/creaking noise with slow-speed braking (such as parking). They "found creak coming from suspension in front. As per SSM54477, ordered..." two "isolater-spring" part# c2z15891.

I quote the invoice because I'd get it wrong otherwise. They seemed to indicate it was a known problem.

Peremptory apology for not being a mechanic. I'm guessing the isolater-spring is what other forums are calling the coil spring isolater, and it's a rubber bushing on the top of the coil that some people deliberately take off to lower their suspension. I want to understand my machine, but at this stage I really don't know what I don't know. I was hoping someone could give me a kick in the right direction if I'm headed down the wrong path.

I found one related post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...solator-80712/

Found a possibly related post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-my-xkr-91426/

First item, where he describes clunking/scraping being fixed by tightening the bolts on the mounting bracket on the suspension rod. (Had the same thing happen to a friend of mine on the rear suspension on his xj)
