187,000 mile XK coupe Inspection Results
Hey guys, just got back with the inspection for my 09 XK. I posted in the new member forum but this is also a hello for this group! I’m excited to be here considering I’ve been reading through post after post before picking up the car a month ago.
Just picked up the car from Jaguar Nashville, and honestly I expected the damage to be far worse. The Christmas list I got from the Service:
Front lower control arm bushing. $573
Front upper control arm $1776 (heh)
Front pads and rotors $926
Front tires (uneven wear inside tire, alignment is also listed here)
Rear Diff Seals. $527
VVT Seal Leak $147
I’m going to do as much as I can at home, the brakes is an easy one to save on. As far as parts go, what do you guys recommend or any independent shops in Nashville area that people know of? I just want to get things taken care of the right way, and if I can budget without compromise that’d be awesome too!
I look forward to everyone’s replies and advice.
Hope y’all had a good day!

For the front upper control arm, see the thread on this forum marked "Huge savings on upper control arms." You can buy the part with the following Ford/Motorcraft part numbers: FRONT Upper control Arms
MotorCraft MCSOE38 = Jaguar 6W4Z3084AA
MotorCraft MCSOE39 = Jaguar 6W4Z3085AA
They are made in England and stamped "Jaguar" Expect to pay about $130-140 per side. Huge savings indeed. I replaced mine and posted photos on that thread. Let me know if you have any trouble finding it. You can probably find the lower control arms as well. Many of the suspension components were shared between the XK, Lincoln LS, and Ford Thunderbird. That's why the identical part is available from Ford/Motorcraft at a huge savings.

VVT seal - AJ82856
Just replaced that yesterday on the LH valve cover. Its the one seal that is accessable from the outside of the cover, which explains why they only have $147 price to replace it. No way they’d only charge that to remove and replace the cover, its a PITA to get to some of those bolts holding it on.
Dealer price for the part is ~$35, you can get it online for under $25.
I had the cover off when I replaced it, but looks like you can just pry it up and off the solenoid, then slide the new one on and press it down to fit.

I have only had my XK since September 2019 and bought it showing only 25k miles. Last week made a long trip from DC to Savannah via Atlanta and Asheville. About 1500 miles round trip. On the return trip with 2 nights in Asheville I decided to take it to Fields Jaguar for an oil change and inspection. They came back with recommendations for only 1 item, replacement of the rear brake pads for $765!! Needless to say, I can buy the pads online for less than $100 and pay my buddy to change them for maybe another $100 or less with a bottle of scotch. Oil and fluids change was $135 so figure I got out cheaper than most.
Impressed with the comments everyone has made about the Jaguar Dealer in Tampa. I will be sure to avoid that dealer if I drive to Florida for New Years...haha! No problems with the car but like many, my GPS was not updated so it showed me driving through farm fields while near Ft. Stewart. Overall got about 25mpg for the whole trip and that's speeds of around 75mph mostly highway.
