2006 XKR Coupe Headliner
With the heat, my new to me, low mileage, garage queen, otherwise like new, 2006 coupe has begun to drop the fabric of its headliner. I have a very good auto upholstery man who, after measuring everything, tells me it will be necessary to remove the windshield to take out the headliner. Has anyone solved this problem without removing the glass?
yup, he's wrong. the front pillar trim pieces come off, the rear ones can be loosened or removed, the visor and overhead lights/buttons assembly thingy all separate from the headliner easily, and you simply tug it down, forward a bit, and rotate it out a door, window down. may help to fiddle with the seats to get it where you want it.
several examples can be found by searching for "headliner," and this thread is right here on page one as it was recently bumped. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...dliner-204416/
the pillar trim is likely going to bunch up on you, being that old. be prepared to replace that as well. i chose to leave mine be even though it's no longer perfect.

Thanks jons. I did find the headliner thread after posting. I will show my upholstery guy your comments and some other detailed instructions previously posted. As a relatively new Jaguar owner I have been very impressed by the quick and helpful advice provided by the members.
Do yourself a favor and ask to see the material he is going to use BEFORE he installs. I also have a very good upholstery guy (graduated with him) but the last headliner wasn't even close, first 4 were perfect. And it's installed. And I'm still pissy about it 4 years later.
Replaced my headliner on my 96 XK8, most of the advice was to remove the windscreen, it is possible DIY but muscles will ache that you didn't think you had from the contortionist skills required.
They are available pre-upholstered here in the UK, but I'd not use these people, just given for example

There is zero need to remove the windshield, once the front and side trim is removed the headliner drops right down. Ask if he can get Passion Suede. If not, reach out to TBERG here on the forums for samples. It is excellent material and the price is incredibly low. Ted was great to work with and sent it out very quickly.
Many thanks to all. I will get together with my upholstery guy again to have another look with your comments in hand.

I am having mine done on my 2010 XK Coupe and was told that they were going to reuse my existing material. I am also doing the 4 side trim pieces. At least I know that everything will match. As mentioned, there is no need to remove windshield...
My headliner has just started pulling away at a very small area (about 6 inches) on the passenger side. It has been this way for awhile. I was told by one of our members that I should be able to reuse the existing headliner material if it is at this early stage, which was confirmed by the installer. This installer has done work for a few members on this forum, as well as my local Jag, Aston Martin, and Bentley dealerships.I have to agree, that I don't see how it could be done properly. Does the foam backing come already attached to the new material?

Thanks to everyone for your good advice and comments. I'll provide the end of my story. Losing enthusiasm for my upholstery guy, I visited the Jaguar shop where I have the car serviced and asked a second person, their head mechanic, whether he thought the windshield had to come out. He thought it did and suggested I take it to the shop where they send their glass work, which also did convertible tops and headliners. (I had called previously but their desk guy never got back with a suggestion.) I did. The quote included $250 for removing and reattaching the windshield, but I had confidence they really knew how to do that. I parked next to a later model XKR convertible at their shop. When I picked it up 2 days later it turned out they did not have to remove the windshield. Saved $ 250, total cost $695 with a close to an original looking fabric and what appears to be an excellent job.
Really appreciate the support of the Forum. I'd be lost without you guys. Until now I always drove German cars, but they don't make anything quite as pretty.
