Hello.
Need advice on transmission maintenance. My 2007 XKR was at the local JRL dealer. They told me that I have a leak at the electrical connection on the transmission and quoted me $2,500 usd. My thought was, new pan with filter, bolts, fluid, and sleeve would do the trick and $2,500 is a ton of money for that job.
I called a local Indy transmission shop that has done work for me in the past, I know the owner and they have an excellent reputation. They quoted me $800 to pull the transmission plus parts and labor for a full tune up. They haven’t inspected my car but said at this age with 66k miles, this is what they suggest. I’m thinking if they are pulling it out that we should go through the entire transmission, valve body and all.
The transmission shifts smoothly and locks right into the next gear, it really feels good.
I’d rather not have it pulled out and just do the work to replace the leaking sleeve and maintenance parts.
I appreciate your thoughts on this.

The transmission does not need to be removed. This is a DIY for many. The fluid needs to be drained, the pan removed and the sleeve replaced, then new pan and new fluid. All is located under the car, on jack stands or a lift is all you need.

If you don't WANT to DIY, I paid $200 plus my own parts for an Import Indie to do mine. Pan/filter is $50 on Amazon, Mechatronic Sleeve is $11 at Rock Auto, I think. A case of fluid (people say six quarts is enough, mine took 9-1/2) is $85, also on Amazon.
So, $346 USD is just a bit better than the $2500 you were quoted.

I had to do the same thing 4 yrs ago, and cost me about 600-700 total. I now just have me local indy drain and fill every 2 yrs. I do the same to my 08 Range Rover Sport. Pan and sleeve replacement every 10 years from now on.

I use this place and they specialize in ZF stuff only. Pretty good prices on fluid change kits and they are up to date on the pan bolts and sealing sleeve problems as well as the plate gasket problems.

I’m having the same problem with a 2007. Did the sleeve you mention fix the problem? I took mine to a foreign car specialist and he said mine is leaking where the electrical wires pass through the transmission but Jag didn’t show the seal available.
