Default 2011 XKR purchase

Getting very serious about buying a 2011 XKR convertible with 42,000 miles on it from a dealer. Any known issues with this model I should look for? Thanks!

Default Dead Battery

I am the new owner of a 2011 XKR175 and quickly learned of the battery discharge issues with this model. It is quite tolerable provided you lock the car everytime you leave the vehicle and charge the battery at every opportunity.

CobraTink about nailed everything with that post. Most owners on here have an on-board battery maintainer, usually a CTEK.
I also went from an XK8 to an XKR, 2010, and am VERY happy that I did. The XK8 made me grin every time I drove, but now that grin has turned into a half-evil grin, knowing I can outrun 99.8% of all the cars out there with just a twitch of my right ankle.

Check if the water pump has been replaced/upgraded. I've had no problems with mine, but a few people with early 5.0 models have had leaks or failures related to the pump and its hoses. There have been several revisions of the pump and hoses, presumably in pursuit of a cure.

Apart from that, it's battery, battery, battery...

Like Cee Jay, I have an early model 2002 XKR that I love dearly and a 2010 XKR coupe that produces that "evil" grin as described. Yesterday, I had the first battery problem. I drive the car every day, but skipped one day the day before and came out in the morning to find a completely dead battery. Wouldn't even light up interior lights. And if you don't have that little metal key that's inserted in the key fob, you're in some trouble getting into the trunk. I changed the battery, but it's a pain in the ***, unscrewing the braces with very little wiggle room. I also had no warning in advance. Other than that, it's been reliable. The only other thing I would emphasize is the lack of any gauges or dipsticks. You need to make sure to check oil and coolant levels to know what's going on.

Otherwise, have fun!

Hey Ted - Get yourself a Ctek and you will probably never have another battery problem. Regards, Ralph

Ted:

Totally agree........with the CTEK....I have 4 of them ...one for each of my premium sports cars.

I highly suggest the following CTEK and accessory.

Amazon.com: CTEK (56-864) MUS 4.3 12-VoltBattery Charger: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK (56-864) MUS 4.3 12-VoltBattery Charger: Automotive

Amazon.com: CTEK (56-304) Comfort Connect Extension Cable: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK (56-304) Comfort Connect Extension Cable: Automotive

You won't be disappointed that you spent the money on this very important aftermarket item.

Happy motoring in your new Jaguar.

make sure the hood button is working as it should. My 2011 started having issues and Jag replaced it with a new type of switch. There may be a TSB on that, not sure. Otherwise enjoy your new ride.
