Smile Adding a sensor to the front lower valance

aftre recently damaging the front carbon fibre valance, before I put another one on and do the same thing I was wondering if anyone else has done the same thing. To prevent this from happening again I want to add a sensor at this area and tie into the existing sensor harness from the bumper sensors. Has anyone out there done anything like this thanks

I don't think it's a huge deal. Just find a 12-24 vdc proximity sensor with the range you want and wire the switched leg into an LED on the dash.

It's actually easier to pick a spot on the ground or the vehicle next to you to stop at that gives you a foot of clearance up front. Figure 6' from the side mirror to the bumper lip so stop 7' from the end up the car next to you. Spatial orientation for the win.

Kind of doubt that you could 'add' a sensor, since I suspect they are individually addressable, so the car knows where the obstruction is (I don't have front sensors on my XK, but the rear sensors cause the display to show the direction in which you are approaching an object.
That said, you should be able to 're-locate' one of the front center sensors to that lower position. I wouldn't pull out an existing sensor, leaving a hole, but get a replacement sensor, place it where you want it, and then disconnect the donor sensor and wire the new sensor to the donor sensor connector.

Good idea I never thought of that, I am pretty sure that would work.

Cheap-o sensors are all over Amazon and eBay. You can buy a whole system of four with the indicators for $12. Install them wherever you want.

How about a Curb Alert as a suppliment. Mount it, aim it, and calibrate it howerver you want. I'd use the LED option they offer.

Ive looked into these in the past ,the one thing I found was the sensors are quite large ,I dont no if a jag sensors would be compatible ? ,the other thing is mounting if you want it to operate say approx a foot away from a parking curb would it pick up the road when travelling ?, My other thoughts are a camera , the problem with that , is you would have to switch it on when parking .

But it would be more aesthetically appealing than those curb feelers... of course, I'm far too egotistical to put those on my car...

Not yet, but I’m still working on it. I’ve been looking for a local machine shop that’s willing to work with me on this and on converting the OEM shifter to a short-shifter.
