Alternative cheaper X150 Parts
Dear all, I’m going to put my neck out here and suggest something.
I’ve been doing my regular search on Ebay looking for various bits of replacement parts for my 2008 Jaguar XKR, and it struck me. This forum has been increcdibly helpful when I’ve been trying to source certain pieces - usually to find a part number. But also the advice on here has saved me a load of cash by suggesting similar/same parts from other cars that work. For example, when my bluetooth module took a dump, instead of buying an OEM 2nd hand replacement at astronomical prices, the brilliant advice on here was to buy a Volvo replacement that did the job just as well, but for a fraction of the price. Same goes for hood vents. Some sellers have been occasionally selling them for cheaper because they came off an XF instead of an XKR.
Sometimes i get the feeling that we X150 owners are charged higher prices for the car we drive and its scarcity in relation to other models, and the seller often relies on buyers not realizing that there’s the identical item for another Jaguar or rival car manufacturer at a more competitive price. The thing is, you often have to dig deep into threads to find this out. So I wondered, if it would be useful if we had a thread like this that owners could throw in their experience and recommendations for fixes/parts that could save others money? Parts aren’t getting cheaper or easier to find as the X150 gets older!
If this is a bad idea fair enough, but I thought it might be very handy to have one thread where owners could come to before anywhere else and immediately see there’s a cheaper but just as effective replacement, rather than trawl through countless threads or several ebay searches.
I’ll go first if it helps.
A replacement bluetooth modules for my 2008 xkr are currently going for $150-200 second hand on ebay. But I found from here that the 2010 Volvo S40 mk2 Bluetooth Control Module (ECU 31310743), comes in at $30-40 in total from my purchase. It works virtually just as well. The difference being that it doesn’t have it’s own antenna to overcome the initial pairing through the cars rear baffle. But if you hold your phone next to the module and pair the phone, it has no problems connecting when I use my phone in car after that. For me, that’s a hefty saving, and it was great to find that out after going through all the threads on here.
Any more recommendations for parts you’ve discovered? Either for donor parts from other car manufacturers or even from other Jaguar models? And if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative part, you’re welcome to use this to ask advice.

Great Concept. One tip is that many bits are shared between the XK and XF, such as mirror caps/glass, the vents on the hood, internal bits like touch screens. Lots of parts shared between F-Types and XKs due to the same chassis. Things like wiper/turn signal stalks are the same across many different jags. F-Types seems to be wrecked more often and there's more parts available.
A good part of the electronics are Ford. Front suspension is from a Lincoln LS. I'm pretty sure there is a good list of some parts in this forum somewhere, not including all, of course.
Found one of the threads:
How much Ford DNA is in our XKs

OK Juss,
Sounds like you volunteered to start a spread sheet that could be maintained on-line.
Since it is your idea (a great one) you can choose the format.
I would suggest a current edit date, prominent in a header.
Parts by category: suspension, front, rear; Powertrain, engine, transmission, accessories, Electrical, Electronics.
Part nomenclature, JLR part number(s) and alternative manufacturer/part number(s) and notes. (also submitted by)
To keep things manageable, consider making it specific to XK&R, 2007-15.
You might set it up for administrator maintenance or member maintenance.
You have the XK/Volvo Bluetooth module (you're welcome), how about power steering reservoir?
Power Steering Reservoir -JLR C2P17387- BMW 32416851218, 32416768094, Note: commonly available aftermarket by search using BMW part #
JLR: $150-$210, vs. $16 Amazon/China
Also, include component parts numbers for rebuilding fan motors, alternators and starters.

Bounding the contents is a good idea. Likely need to segment some sections to 4.2L vs 5.0L, as well as XK vs XKR, for the non-shared components.
I've gone ahead and started a sheet to track this. Comments/suggestions welcome. If you'd like to edit the sheet PM me directly and I can give you edit access.

THANK YOU
adding it to my file!!!
MUCH appreciated!!
Great job!
would I be correct in thinking that because the Volvo nav disks work that the nav unit is also available via Volvo or Volvo breakers at a cheaper price? Sorry I don’t have part numbers
