Default Alternator replacement

Hello everyone. Ok so I have a bad alternator on my 2007 XKR. They are charging me an arm and a leg to replace it so Ive decided to tackle the task myself. Ive looked around but seems like only horror stories on replacing these alternators but really no instructions or ideas on how to do it. Can anyone help on the procedure of renoving the alternator,? Again I have a 2007 Jaguar XKR. Thanks in advance to all you guys.

Download the X150 service manual from the sticky's at the top of this page, read the section and see if you think you can perform the work.

I did it. The hardest part for me, was undoing the cover thats underneath. Raise the car on ramps, disconnect the neg on the battery and remove the fans. Then undo the serpenting belt, by releasing the tension on tensioner pulley. I used a rented tool at the time. Its just a skinny breaker bar. Now unbolt the alternator One bolt on top and the long one on the bottom. Gotta remove the airscoop for the Alternator, and the wire harness. Disconnect the power cable and it should drop down. It goes back together a lot faster.

that sounds pretty straight forward. I heard horror stories about the removal process. But I will be doing it this weekend so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Default Any update on alternator replacement on 07 XKR?

I’m having the dreaded “battery not charging” warning and not looking forward to changing the alternator

Any updates I could be encouraged by?

Thanks

You are aware that this warning can simply mean that the battery is not accepting a charge because it is faulty? In other words it may be (probably is) the battery which is the problem.

Maybe read the actual voltage at the battery terminals when the warning is showing.

If low, check elsewhere (nearer the alt) in case there's a drop.

At least you'll see if it's plausibly the alt or not.

Did you not have to remove the motor mount to have enough room to drop the alt?

Wes,

The thread starter, Busyb187, hasn't made another post since 7/18/2018. I doubt that he will reply.
