The leather is starting to wear out of my xk gearknob I'm thinking of replacing it with either a chrome or brushed finished ..thoughts

Ha! I had a spare original Jaguar machined alloy one, sold it about a year ago. They are worth a bomb...

I took it out of the car and replaced it with a wooden one because in summer it got so hot you couldn't touch it.

Part number C2P9343, they were something like $200 from Jag, if they are still available...

But believe me, you will hate it in summer.

One thing I learned riding motorcycles, never add chrome to anything in front of you if you ride in the daytime. The glare is murder. This one might work for you.

Its not going to match his interior. I placed my order for mine ASAP after seeing yours the first time I saw it posted. I got a growler logo one instead.

I don't really like the leather/shiny factory unit. I would rather it either metal or leather, not both.

Ebay.........$81.00

Jaguar Las Vegas.........$69.00

http://www.jaguarlasvegasparts.com/oe-jaguar/c2p9343

JAGUAR OEM C2P9343 Automatic Trans Shift Knob Aluminum With Growler XJ XK S-TYPE | eBay

Great shift knob, was sold as an accessory item in the 2009 Jaguar Sales Brochure as an accessory.

Bought mine on eBay for about $50.00.

During the summer months, our outside temps get up to 110° + never had a problem with the shift knob getting hot as I was used a sunshade to protect the dash.

Same here, had the Spun Aluminum dash and the aluminum Growler gear shift knob matched perfectly.

That gear shift knob is the standard OEM Knob that was seen on the 2009 XK/XKR's. I removed the same knob to go to the growler knob shown above.

The OEM knob was a PITA to get off. I had to heat up the knob to help melt the RTV adhesive to get it to come off.

I sent the knob to Jag Forum member Stuart S. as a spare.

Richard just sent me the leather insert, not the chrome housing. While I appreciate Richard's generosity, the leather was in pretty rough shape, so I discarded it. My original knob still is like new.

Stuart S:

You are a man that is very hard to please. There was nothing wrong with the leather. I don't send people crappy stuff. You never complained in any way to me.

No need to even reply.

Here's exactly the way the gear shift knob looked as these images are from my XKR and the exact condition that the item was sent to you, asking nothing in return. Like brand new.

I am not sure how anybody can believe what you post on this forum.

Richard,

I regret that you feel that way, but you are mistaken. Why would I lie? I just wanted to set the record straight. You sent me the leather insert that you removed from the knob, and not the knob as shown in your pictures. Your assault on my character is way out of line, but there is no need for you to apologize, as I forgive you.

I'll let the Forum members decide who to believe.

Happy Holidays to all!

Stuart

GUYS GUYS GUYS!
You are both top contributors to this forum, and I respect you both, so lets not squabble over a small piece of a cow's ***.
I'm sure its all just a matter of presentation and perseption. When seen as originally stretched and mounted in Richard's car, it looks perfect. But after removal, shipment, and just sitting by itself in a box, it probably looks more like the cow's ***.
Put it behind you and move on, peacefully please. Even Snoopy and the Red Baron had a holiday truce!
