Default Blacking out the Chrome on the rear

Hey everyone,
Just a quick query, i've seen a number of stunning black Xk's on here and everytime I wonder how some of the 'blacking out' is done. For instance I would really like to remove the chrome boot/tailgate bar that says Jaguar and replace it with a black one. The picture below shows a car with a blade I would like.

Now I know the black pack would count for some of the cars i've seen, but if someone has a part number for the item then I'd appreciate it. Alternvitely an easy way to transform the Chrome into black would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Have it painted gloss black (like I did) or even easier plastidip it.

I went the Plastidip route. Looks great color wise, but I think I'll peel the 'dip off and have it gloss painted. The Plastidip (done by a body shop) came out a bit blotchy and more 'matte' than I'd have liked (they put two coats of clear on it no less).

But do the 'dip first and see how you like it.

I agree with the others who've done it and think it does have the effect of making the car look wider. I think they eye, not given a narrow reference point, sees the car from outer back wheel edge to outer back wheel edge, a much wider distance. It also makes the degree to which the rear wheel wells are widened out (on the XKR @ least).

Good luck,

Skeeter

I also wanted gloss black and went that route over plastidip plus I don't think plastidip was popular 3-4 years ago at the time I had mine painted.

WOW! Your car is beautiful!! Did you also black out the leaper in the back? Everything is black on mine except the rear chrome and leaper. Not as much chrome on back as they used to have though.

I was very lucky, a friend of a friend. All parts, electrical components and fitted for just less than $1000.
