Default Brake Pads..

Hey guys,

I know it has been discussed a lot over the years.. I can’t seem to find the correct pads for my 2012 XKR.

My OEM pads still have a lot of life left, but the dust is beyond horrible. Also, I have that creaking sound coming from the front pads(my XF did the same thing) when first stopping. It’s worse when it’s wet.

I’ve read that ceramic pads or semi ceramic pads are a big help in both areas. Does anyone have the part numbers to aftermarket pads? It’s a 2012 XKR with the standard R brakes.. 380mm up front I believe.

Thanks,
Joe

I switched to EBC Red Stuff and it made a world of difference in terms of cleanliness and performance seems the same. Just put in "2012 XKR red stuff brake pads" in Google and pick any purveyor.

I have Textar TEXC2D3792 ceramic pads and TEXC2P4219 wear sensors installed on my 13XKR vert about 4k miles ago and they are just fine. Rear wheels don't get as dirty as the front wheels. Will put in Textars on the front wheels when it is time to replace front discs.

I've used ebc green, red and yellow but prefer akebono pads.

Will also upgrade to SS brake lines (if the 150 doesn't have these).

Within the first month of ownership over 4 years ago I replaced my brake pads on my 5,000 mile 2010 XK. Not sure if these are available for the XKR. Centric super quiets for front and Akebono for rears. I too hated the dust. Just going around the block threw it everywhere including the fender areas. Virtually no dust no noise and stops about the same without the initial bite.

Porterfield R4-S pads are very good for fast street use. Low dust and noise. EBC reds will fade fast. Ok for one heavy stop only. Porterfield will take much more advise before fading.

Dunno, man. I put some Porterfield R4-S pads on the front of mine about 100 miles ago and cleaned my wheels at that time.
This is what I have now, but they DO stop well:

I hope this mess if from bedding the pads in, and will decrease the longer I use them.

The R4-S is a performance pad (nice choice Cee Jay) as is EBC YellowStuff, and performance pads will always dust.
Ceramic is a mid-grade, low dust option at best, and that's the trade off you need to think about.

Personally, I'm too aggressive in my driving habits, so performance products is all I use. When I need real stopping and cornering power, long life tires and low dust pads just don't cut it. Also the added margin of safety can't be discarded easily over the 'no dust' options.

I've run a myriad of pads through my cars over the years, and the Jaguar is by for the most limiting in choices.

As I don't like ceramics, I've been on the YellowStuff up front for a year or so and am not really impressed.
I wish we had the Hawk lineup available to us as they were one of the first to use the NRS (Nucap) backing plates and offered a great selection of compounds, but sadly....Sweet dreams are made of these...

Like Cee Jay, will be looking back to Porterfield for their original R4 compound (not the -S, only because they squealed a lot on my XK) as they really bite hard and are linear at all speeds and temps. Sadly, they also turn your rims black just backing out of the driveway! Ah the sacrifices we make...

Thanks for all the replies! The part numbers referenced really help with sourcing the pads. I’m having the wheels powdercoated in a couple of weeks and wanted to change the pads at the same time.

It sounds like any of these options will be a great improvement over stock.

Thanks,
Joe

Cee Jay, the dust will get better. They wont be as low as Akebono but a big improvement over stock and they will stop fast repeatedly.

Agreed. I've just replace all the discs and pads on mine and used the EBC red stuff pads. Dust creation is greatly reduced without negatively effecting feel, in fact there's possibly a slight improvement in initial 'bite'.

I'm trying to find where I read it, but I thought our cars are already running Kevlar performance brake lines. If so, swapping to SS would be for appearances only.

I have run ebc reds for years on several jags and love them. Theyre a better than oem pad which is a great pad but dust alot. Just ordered ebc yellows yesturday for my 04 since the reds are getting close. The yellow is listed as a better improvement over the reds. Since i now live in the country and drive 75miles round trip and pass slow drivers i can apprieciate a better no fade bite. Brakes are like horse power and guns . Cant have too much and dont have to use it, but when you do youll be glad you have it.
