Buying a 2013 XKRS
You should be totally confident in your decision making with this car. Considering that you are not able to see it in person and touch it, if you have even the slightest doubts, I'd be walking. This is still a big purchase, and it is up to the seller to make certain that you are totally happy and secure with your purchase. Why take a chance? You are not purchasing a one off classic that can't be replaced. It's all about your comfort zone. That piece of paper is no guarantee either. Besides, who wants legal issues? Good luck with your decision and possible purchase.

I got the CPO inspection attached, please take a look and provide feedback! Still waiting on the photos. I asked for the facetime when the car is on the lift but they said techs dont want to be bothered. I then requested that I want photos of underneath the car while it is on a lift and he said that " if he has time i will get it done and if there is a free bay that is open". All this seems very shady to me. I also started to draft a letter for the dealership to sign. Thank you for that advice. See draft below.
Hello Victor and Patrick,
Thank you very much for helping me and working with me on the sale of the white jaguar XKRS. Before I commit to the sale, I would like Patrick and Victor to confirm and agree to what was discussed on the phone.
Hello Victor and Patrick,
Thank you very much for helping me and working with me on the sale of the white jaguar XKRS. Before I commit to the sale, I would like Patrick and Victor to confirm and agree to what was discussed on the phone.
- Jaguar of Tampa has conducted a Certified Pre-owned Inspection on the 2013 White XKRS, which is the basis of the sale, VIN SAJWA4HAXDMB49613
- The sale is contingent on my acceptance of the Jaguar of Tampa Certified Pre-Owned Inspection.
- I, Andrew , will conduct a separate Certified Pre-owned Inspection from a Jaguar Dealership near me. The results shall be the same based on the type of Certified Pre-Owned Inspection that Jaguar conducts. If the reports do not match or have discrepancies, Jaguar of Tampa will either take back the car pay for all costs associated with return to the original location at Jaguar of Tampa and refund the entire dollar amount in the transaction of the sale or Jaguar of Tampa will pay 100% of the costs to repair the discrepancies of the two reports. This is based off of the conversation I had with PAtrick.
- The registration and tags will be conducted on my behalf by Jaguar of Tampa and I, Andrew, do not have to go back to illinois for further registration.
Still need to finish it up. Not sure if I need to add more detail or just simply outline what i had in question and over the phone
I would not have that dealership do the registration work. I had an issue when I bought my Rapide in Beverly Hills (I live in Boston) and the paperwork was in limbo for 3 months! I had a car sitting my garage I could not drive. Do the paperwork yourself. Most use a service to do out of state registrations and you're at the mercy of that service. Send the car and title. If your state requires something before you get the car, they scan that for your insurance.
If you have a bill of sale, receipts or whatever else you get from the purchase AND valid car insurance which would include your new beastie (most companies give 30 days for a new purchase) then no law enforcement would be concerned. I've always put the bill of sale in the back window while driving, right where a temp tag would be placed. Never had an issue, even when I was pulled over once for "spirited passing".
You know how to tell a car salesman is lying? They're moving their lips. So said my 30+ years in auto sales buddy.
So I sent them a refundable deposit of $1,000 USD as a gesture of good faith in wanting to purchase the car. I still have to get a better understanding of the CPO inspection. This inspection does NOT make it a jaguar CPO (CPO attached in my previous post). The purpose of me requesting it was to understand what risks I am accepting for potential and future mechanical /body repairs. Unfortunately, the yes, no, N/A really does not give me insight. What I was looking for... suggested replacement, mx etc. Just like if a dealer was inspecting the car for trade-in purchase but that seems very "optimistic". In addition, I am contemplating on putting 25K down and financing the rest vs. 100% cash purchase. That drives the decision on the dealership having to handle title and registration vs me doing it myself. I am leaning more towards 25K down and financing the rest. I am going to just have it delivered and registered in Colorado rather than IL if I decide to finance.
Does anyone have insight on how to decipher what that CPO inspection is suggesting? If items are checked yes, does that mean it is up to jaguar standard? What does it mean if there are no items checked and left blank?

... Does anyone have insight on how to decipher what that CPO inspection is suggesting? You might want to ask your local Jaguar dealer. If items are checked yes, does that mean it is up to jaguar standard? I think that's correct. What does it mean if there are no items checked and left blank? Maybe those items don't apply to the XKR-S.
Don't take this the wrong way, but that report they did is next to useless in my view. Just ticking some boxes tells you very little. And their refusal, more or less, to put the car on a a ramp and take photos of the underside would have me running for the hills. Any self-respecting seller would be pleased to do that for you, not give you a hard time over it. They'd be pleased to prove to you what a great car you are buying.
I get a similar, box-tick report after every service at my local Indie - it is a useful guide but it is NOT a pre-purchase inspection report. You need the opinions of the vehicle examiner, an estimate of costs to carry out remedial work and photos! Definitely need photos.
Check this out for example:
https://carexamer.com/vehicle-inspection/premium
On that page, click the [i] Report in the middle of the page and see what a decent pre-sale inspection report looks like. Also check out the 'media' link on that page too.

I don't want to rain on your parade at all, but this is a 45 thousand dollar purchase and the seller should be bending over backwards, and then some, to help you make this deal.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works well for you.

We are 100% in agreement here. I'm ready to go to a different dealer. These guys know that I am from out of state and doing the least to get in communication. I am leaning on the side of saying this inspection doesn't mean **** and requesting the deposit back. I'll just go to a private party seller instead.

Might be a good time to consider if the S is the XK you really want. Maybe you already did and if so, I apologise and please ignore the following. But some might say the S is an XK too far. More of a track car (maybe that's the appeal for you though?). On the road, it's difficult to use all the power of the regular 5.0 litre car, what with 500 bhp going through just two wheels an'all. Have to be careful. The S, even more so. So maybe the XKR would really float your boat just as well, and a lot less expensive. Maybe use the dollars saved to trick the car up a little, with wheels, spacers, a new spoiler or two if that's your thing. Just sayin'.
I hope this works out for you and you join the ranks of XK(R) ownership. Most of us will tell you there's no better, no more beautiful, car for your money than a lovingly maintained XK(R). Amazing looks, amazing performance, and reliable too. I've had plenty of nice cars - Porsches, other Jaguars, Mercedes Benz, a Ferarri one time, but my XKR gives me as much pleasure as any of them, more than most, and is the ONLY car I have ever had that gets regular 'nice car' remarks when I fill it with gas. People seem to like Jaguars, and the XK(R) is one fine Jaguar. And of all the car forums I've been in over the years, this one has the best guys, with the most knowledge and the friendliest attitude. Please let us know how this pans out for you.
Agreed. When I sell a car, if the buyer wants an inspection done, I am pleased. I'm pleased for it to show the buyer what a great car he is buying. And if the inspection shows any faults I didn't already declare, then I am pleased about that too because I don't want to deceive anyone. I want them to be happy with their purchase. The attitude of these guys sucks - they don't deserve to stay in business with an attitude like that IMO.
FYI.....Similar to the OP....I too purchased my car over 6 years ago from out of state. In that case it was PA and I live in Florida. I can't tell you how much the selling dealer went out of his way to send a response to every request I made, including videos, etc. I happened to fly down to see the car anyway, and it was as it was represented. I still inspected it again and the dealer cooperated completely. My purchase was similar to the OP with regards to it being close to $45,000....I got everything I requested with no issues. I can't understand why the buyer is getting such a hard time. I'd give this one a Hard Pass.If things start out bad....They usually get worse. Good luck.
***update***
I just got off the phone with the used sales manager and basically told him about my overall experience thus far and that I was ready to pull my deposit and shop elsewhere. I had complained about the lack of communication with the original salesman, delay in photos, the lack of initiative to get the basic inspection notes from the tech, the lack of completeness of the actual basic CPO inspection form, and the lack of knowledge and customer service that has been provided thus far. He basically jumped the gun on me and said... "now you think we are hiding things from you, and i completely understand". I will say that the manager was much more invested in the sale after i had complained to him. The manager is going to get the inspection re-done, ensure the form is complete, and have notes about recommended repairs, condition reports and provide tech notes. His goal was "to earn back the trust".
So after the conversation about the ridiculous "Jaguar Certified CPO report", he said "if there is anything that needs to get fixed or is recommended to be fixed, I will make sure it is done prior to delivery at no cost to you EX: He had sent me a text after the conversation. He had spoken to the service foreman and addressed the missing checks on the engine/ transmission mount. It does need attention and he texted me and said it will be taken care of... I am still a little skeptic about about it because If I never talked to the manager, i would have inherited that problem if I was to hasty in the purchase and, a 7 year old car with 40K miles on it is sure of have some issues. I am setting my expectation that some will be replaced/repaired, not all of it. In addition, the previous offer was at $46.7K and is dropping down to $45K flat out the door price (tax, tags, registration, doc fee, shipping). The new inspection, photos of the car, photos of the car on a lift and recommend repairs will all be delivered to me today for consideration of the sale. I will say that my experience was terrible up to that point, but it is headed in the right direction. Only time will tell.

One concern is that Item 16, Sun visor and vanity mirror, was checked "No", which I presume means that one or both were inoperable or missing. There was no estimate of the cost of repairs, including parts and labor. Those illuminated sun visors are expensive.
Got the pictures of underneath the car

I could be wrong lol this could possibly be my first XK. Also, yes I do love the fact that it is an XK that went overboard. It may sound stupid but I enjoy the fact that it is difficult to control the car. Everytime i watch reviews on it and they say "i always feel like im on the edge of losing control" i think it makes the car that much more fun to drive. I did have an F-Type S before i moved to colorado and it was very fun to drive, basically stuck to the ground. I know the XKRS is a little more squirly. Almost like the car it constantly being tested and the driver trying to tame the beast haha. If the sale doesn't go through I will be sad but continue my search!
