Default Is Carbon Buildup on valves a concern? 5.0L SC

I understand that GDI can have issues with carbon buildup. I also understand that some manufacturers have worked to solve this issue by having dual injectors with one spraying below the valve and one above to keep it clean. I can't seem to find if the 5.0L SC in my 2010 has this tech or not. Does anyone know? Or may it be a good idea to run injector cleaner through every 5-10k miles?

Thanks.

Download the repair manual. I would assume the injector operation is detailed in there.

Jag does not use that tech. I think Acura does so. Injector cleaner isn't a bad idea but it doesn't clean the valves. CRC makes a cleaner specifically for DFI engines but has to be introduced upstream of the intake valves.

Repair Manuals are in one of the "sticky" threads at the top of the first page of this X150 Forum.

Carbon buildup on the back of intake valves is a Very Real concern on GDI engines. Google it, take a peek at all the photos. It's some nasty stuff.

Welcome to the forum Krazy! Be sure to update your signature with info on your car so we can all be more helpful!

As Cee Jay and Jackra_1 point out, the 5.0l does indeed experience the buildup problem. The 4.2l does not.
Fuel "additives" do not address the problem, and tend to offer more a placebo effect.

I'm personally on my 3 direct injection car (Audi, Lexus, Jaguar) and also as mentioned, only my Lexus had an extra injector on the intake to fight this problem.

I have used theBG induction cleaning system which was available at my local Ford dealership, with significant gains in output. There are many similar systems out there now that others may recommend that may be equally as good or better. (BG was just one of the first to identify and offer a viable treatment.)

I would now make this a bi-annual maintenance practice IMHO.

The 5.0 engine does have better oil control than the 4.2 which means you may well not get as much soft carbon build up in the charge coolers on SC cars which
is a real problem on the 4.2 engine with a super charger.

Which is why I have an oil catch can on my XJR 4.2.

As I mentioned in another thread I will try out CRC on my 2013 NA Rover soon.

You should have deleted your question, since you reposted it on the correct F-Type Forum.

The above is a "generic" thread on oil catch cans which may be of interest.
