Discovered that it is actually possible to clear warning symbols via the interactive display unit

Once the warning symbol occurs on the dash a very very small red rectangle shall appear on the interactive display unit, from then on its as simple as pressing the red triangle and following the prompts

 

Cool! I wondered what that little bugger was for.

 

Yep, that's all in the owner's manual.

 

Guess it didn't bug me enough to look it up.

 

I use it to get rid of the pesky, "blaring" low fuel warning about every other day.

 

Seems like I'm the only one that doesn't know it was possible to clear these symbols

It doesn't clear the "service required" warning, but there is a complicated sequence that does, it's been posted here before.

'Service Required' Message appears on dashboard (2009+ models in the UK, 2010+ models
elsewhere):

-This service reminder message sometimes appears as a result of the battery disconnect. Reset
it as follows:

1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (before the ignition is on).
2. Press the start button without applying the foot brake (do not start the engine)
3. Release the rear fog lamp switch (1sec)
4. Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch (within 1sec).
5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch. (within 1sec)
6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
7. The message center should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.

 

You should not ignore the low fuel warning. Are you aware that the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel around it? The major cause of fuel pump failure in modern cars is repeated running of the pump in a low fuel environment. Resist the urge to run it below 1/4 tank...replacement of a fuel pump is an expensive repair.

I've got a brake pad low error that keeps flashing up. I had the pads checked about 3 weeks ago and had 8mm left, so I'm assuming it's a sensor issue. That error had been doing my head in!

 

Hi I'm having the same problem on my 2007 XKR and the local garage are ordering in x2 replacement front sensors. Can anyone advise whether fitting requires removal of the bonnet in order to get into the location where the sensors are located? This sounds like a major job to fit something that is of no real value? Better still, what is the downside of disconnecting the things and living happily ever after???

 

First, thanks for posting the Rest Procedure.

Second, in Step #7, can you give me an idea of how long it takes to get from the "resetting" stage to the completed "reset" stage? I just tried going through this procedure a couple of times last night and I was holding the buttons for 2-3 minutes and the message never went to the "service mode reset" stage. Did I really need to hold in the buttons for longer than 3 minutes, or is it maybe something else?

You have to keep the beat! It should go to Reset seconds after the task completion.
It's best to practice a few times, then do a steady one-second cadence. You'll get it, keep trying.

 

Do download the workshop manual and review the procedure. Can’t imagine removing the bonnet when you can easily put it up into service mode (or whatever that’s called)
